I have a Pioneer Elite monitor 141fd and I just installed a new blue ray Pioneer Elite 09fd.
My question is as follows: I played two blue ray dvds last night. One was top gun and the other was a James Bonds movies both had the black borders top and bottom. How do I remove the borders?

Those black bars are supposed to be there. These movies was filmed at a wider aspect ratio (2.20:1 or even wider 2:35:1) than your TV (1.78:1). So if you want to see everything the director filmed, if you want to see how he intended this movie to be seen, you would have unused space on your TV in the form of black bars at the top and bottom.

If you don't care about losing part of the picture, then you could just hit the zoom button on your BD player or your TV, and pick a zoom setting that enlarges the picture but doesn't distort it.

cheers,
