After much deliberation, way too much internet research and countless reviews I hit the pavement to audition a number of bookshelf speakers in my local area. I auditioned Paradigm Atoms, MiniMonitors, Studio 20's, B&W 686's, Klipsch RB51, Mission M31i and M32i, Energy RC-10's, Boston HS50, JBL 830 and some Polk something or other. Then i audtioned a pair of Angstrom Mudular Model 2's. They weren't the cheapest or most expensive auditioned. I ended up walking out of the store with the for $500(CDN) taxes in. I was initially loking for a 2.1 set-up but the bass extension on these bookshelves is great and for my purposes negates the need for a sub. To my ears they are fantastic, pretty neutral, slightly forward if anything but not bright and faitguingly so. The off-axis sound is incredible resulting in a great soundstage where ever you are in the room. They use a fibreglass driver which looks like B&W's kevlar, which i like looking at but the boss want to leave the grills on.
Bottom line is I can only find a couple references to this speaker line on this site (I've included one such reference below). I honestly think if you're in the market for a pair of bookshelf speakers or complete system for that matter I think Angstrom is definitely worth a look and a listen.
"I went down to the dealer today and auditioned my Angstrom Modular 2's against the Monitor Audio RS1's in fact, the Acoustic Energy Aelite 2's and Amphion Helium 2's which I've never head of. I was there for about 2 hours playing a variety of music from Metallica to blues music. I must say that my Modular 2's($629.00CDN), held their own against these more expensive bookshelf speakers, MA's($850.00CDN), AE's($1100.00CDN), Amphion($1000.00CDN). All the speakers were tested through an Anthem AVM 50 recevier and PVA 7 amp combo, at the same levels and same speaker wire, Tara Labs Prisim Bi-wire. After lots of listening I think only the Monitor Audio RS1's had better sound and I'm contemplating buying them????" - Mazersteven
