Bookshelf system, resistance issues?

hey guys new to the forum, but i'm an active caraudioforum member.

just had a question for you guys.

JVC HX-Z30
(can't post the link of it unless i have 5 posts...gay )

the amplifier wants to power subwoofers at the lowest impedance of 6 ohms. i had some single 4 ohm datyon quatro's hooked up to each subwoofer channel (2) in a custom ported enclosure and it worked fine.

i plan on making a new setup with a dual 4 ohm 13Ov from elemental designs. i was going to run one channel to one vc and the other channel to the other vc. so both channels will each see a 4 ohm load.

dangerous? i know impedance rises with a ported enclosure. but do you think i'm going to eventually kill the amplifier? should it be alright?

i plan on building the enclosure a little bit on the larger side to get more output without having to crank the volume high. i'm just trying to play it safe since i use the stereo for everything, TV/360/movies/music.

thanks in advance

page 32/36 is the spec sheet from jvc

Why not wire the speakers in series so the combination will be 8 ohms?

has anyone ever ran speakers creating a lower ohm load than what the receiver says it's lowest impedance is?

Why would you want to do that? This could put the receiver into protection mode.

it's only one speaker. and 2 subwoofer outputs on my reciever.

you have a diagram?
you don't have to run two subwoofers. Both outputs are identical.

Oh, you DO realize that LFE/subwoofer outputs on a receiver won't run subwoofers without built in amps, don't you? If you're hoping to connect a speaker to these and have them work, you're in for one big disappointment.

edit: I see that's a boombox. All bets are off.

Remember, this type of unit is designed to be operated as an all-in-one system and may not have the same sophisticated protection circuitry that component systems have. Good luck, but I'd say you're messing around with Jim here.

i just got a birthday notification from the forum so i figured i'd check back in real quick...

as for this old thread i wanted to update it just in case anyone else was doing something similar...

the min impedance on the receiver was 6 ohms per subwoofer channel and i used 2 4 ohm speakers per channel...4 ohm load to the each and it has been working great ever since i changed it. didn't go into protect because of the low ohm load and the amplifier wasn't clipping/going into protect because of overworking itself.

overall, there was no issue through the entire process and this is what it looked like...
