Speakers for Denon 3805

Hey, I recently bought a Denon 3805 receiver and was looking for some good speakers to go along with it. I am willing to pay up to 3000 dollars for them. Thanks ahead. :)

How about Paradigm Studio 20's or 40's...and a little cash left over? Or what about their Signature line? $3000 just for bookshelves is a lot of coin.

The only way to find out what you might like is to audition as many speakers as you can in your price range. What sounds good to me might not sound so good to you. If you have a Tweeter store near you that might be reasonably place to start. And when you finally decide what speakers to get done let the store sell you expensive speaker cables and interconnects, because it's all BS. My personal favorite is Radio Shack 14 gauge in the 50 or 100 foot rolls. Also you can get 12 gauge at Home Depot in any length you want. On the other hand the expensive stuff is usually prettier.

Correct. There is no audible or visual difference in the fancy expensive cables and interconnects compared to those sold at Radio Shack. There is hugh profit in the expensive cables so the sales person will push for you to buy them. I recommend Radio Shack only because they are almost everywhere. Acoustic Research sold at Best Buy and most of the large chain stores are just as good as well. Add a good surge protector and you are good to go. BTW Radio Shack has recently started selling Monster cables and interconnects, do not throw away money on them either.

I've been running Paradigms (Monitor 7, center, Mini-monitor, Sub) in 5.1 with my older Denon 2700. I'm moving up to a 3805 and will be adding Denon in walls for the additional surrounds. The Paradgms have been excellent and seem to balance well with the Denon recievers. You should be able to stay within your budget and get a really nice set of speakers. Good luck.

Axioms?

I have a 3805 and a set of Axiom Audio speakers (M60 fronts, VP150 center, QS8 surrounds). I'm happy -- good value for the money, in my opinion.

You know, this site has a series of speaker reviews. You might want to check them out.

Good luck.

Ok,... 'cause there is a BIG difference between a $3000 pr. of speakers and a $3000 set of 7.1 speakers ;-)
I'd suggest going with a 5.1 set (then later add a couple of speakers for the 7.1)
Look at / listen to offerings from the likes of RBH Sound, Paradigm, Totem, Monitor Audio, B&W, etc. etc.,.... also do not dis-count the less expensive JBL, Infinity, Polk, Klipsch and other major brands. You may find you like the sound of them better. Get out and listen to as many as you can and pick what YOU think sounds best (even if they cost less than your budget)

Why, can you not get good 7.1 speakers for $3000. :)

Simply because it is better to do a 5.1 well, than doing a 7.1 poorly.

Those two extra speakers (for the 7.1), even buying the least expensive speakers possible, will deplete a portion of your funds that could be used to buy a better center or front speakers for the 5.1 system.

Then room size comes into play. Many rooms simply are not big enough for a 7.1 system, which compromises the sound quality.

By the way, there is not a lot of material filmed in 7.1, and at a later date, you could always upgrade to a 7.1 if desired.

Stick with 5.1, your budget, and your speakers, will be happy you did.
