Bookshelf Speaker Upgrade?

Hi All!

I have a question regarding some bookshelf speakers. I currently have Cambridge Soundworks Newton M80s which have the 8" woofer, 3.5" mid, and 1" tweeter. These serve as my surrounds for my 5.1 setup. However, the conundrum is that all of my other speakers are Klipsch and I feel like having them all be Klipsch would be such a nice and clean look. However, the largest bookshelf which Klipsch sells is the RP-600 M which only has a 6.5" woofer and 1" horn. Do you think the Klipsch name and technology will allow those to compete with my current M80s? The M80's really do sound good.

Well aesthetics aside if the speakers sound good I'd just leave things as is. The Klipsch name would somewhat scare me away, tho (I'm not a particular fan). They're surrounds, too. Do you listen to a lot of multich music particularly?

I've heard the M80s and they're good. I have to agree, if they're not broken, I wouldn't say you'll gain a lot by switching them to Klipsch, UNLESS you listen to a lot of multi-channel SACDs and DVD-As. That is likely the only time you would really hear a difference.

That is a good point. I typically do not listen to multichannel music very often. So sounds like the consensus is I will keep these M80s because I love them. Thanks for the input!

I have a pair of JBL L20t3's which are the surround sound speakers in a 5.1 system, supporting JBL L100t3 mains. Since multi-channel SACDs sound just right, I could conclude the JBL L20t3's were worth their cost; however, now that I understand the nature of surround sound, adding breadth and depth to the experience, I am confident that the expenditure for the JBL L20t3's was not necessary. I now believe surrounds matching mains is not at all critical. In fact, I think I could have essentially the same surround experience with about 6 JBL Control 5's from JBL's Professional series, which sell for about $179 a pair as I recall.

Klipch had a 8” model forgot it’s name , your speakers are probably better since they are 3 ways .
Only if you watch a lot of movies or tv can louder Klipch work . If your surrounds are loud enough, keep them.

I do listen to a lot of multichannel SACD and DVD-As and at one point I had identical speakers all around. It was a bit of a revelation when I did that because it sounded so good. I have since upgraded my gear many times and now my mains and surrounds don't match again, but they are sonically similar and it still sounds great. So basically, if it sounds good now, put those funds toward something else :)
