Hey everyone, I've got a quick question. About a month ago I purchased the Bose Lifestyle 28 system. Within in a month I'm on my 2nd media center and needing to exchange it for a third. So I'm finished with the Lifestyle 28. I do however really like the speakers and the sound and performance I've gotten from them. So I'm going to keep the same type of speakers however I'm looking for a reciever that will match well with them performace and power wise. I'm looking at the Yamaha RX-V1500. I can get a good price on it and I like that it's 7.1 so I can upgrade later, also pushing at about 120 watts per speaker is nice. So does anyone know by chance how this might match up? I've looked online and can't find anything about the bose speakers (double cube) that I have and a reciever that matches well. Please Help!!! Sale ends soon!!! Thanks. John

STOP WHAT YOUR DOING

Bose cubes are desgin specifically to go with the Bose Media center and Bass module.

They will blow instantly if you hook them up to a receiver, Especially an RX-V1500.

I suggest you sell your Bose Equipment and get a real stereo. For the same price you could get a killer setup that will blow the Bose system out of the water.

The Receiver you have selected is a great choice. May I suggest a couple speaker manufactures?

Please Educate Me

Sheep....thanks for the response. After an hour of reading Bose Bashing I realize I have made a rookie consumer mistake. Good news is that since I purchased on base (we're military) I can take back for a full refund. I am open to any suggestions you may have. What I would like is a good center channel speaker, good sub (love a good low response with movies), good fronts, and good surrounds. I'm open for towers, bookshelfs, mini's. I'm glad you think the reciever is good. Price here is $599, I also like the capabilities of 7.1 for either now or later use. Thanks in advance, and as a side note I would like to keep my system price roughly around the same as I'm returning the Bose ASAP!!!

If you're looking for the small, satellite type speakers, check out the Hsu VT-12 at www.hsuresearch.com. They offer a deal with the STF-2 subwoofer that, as I recall, is $559, and includes shipping and a nice 20' sub cable. This sub will give you what you're looking for.

By the way, what is the size of your room? That sometimes guides the purchase. The above setup would be fine for a small to midsized room.

Also what is your total budget?

You will get recommendations that go every direction, but mostly you want to get some ideas based on budgetary numbers, keeping in mind it is rather easy to go over that number after you including speaker wire and cabling.

But, if you take things slow - don't jump to quickly, and make solid decisions, you will be good to go. Figure out the complete system, then buy it at once if you can. But, definitely, get the Bose stuff together and return it if you can. You will be amazed at how much better stuff can sound.

Look around at some solid manufacturers as well for speakers, Axiom, Energy, Paradigm, Def-Tech, Aperion, etc. There are tons of excellent speaker manufacturers out there.

Bottom line with speakers tends to be you get what you pay for unless the company is specifically ripping you off. The above listed speaker companies don't do that.

Budget after Bye-Bye Bose

Well I'm returning the Bose system for a full refund from the store. So my budget is roughly $2000, however I'm stationed overseas in Japan so I think I might be better off waiting a couple more months till I get back stateside so I can shop around in real stores and online, not to mention the shipping will be easier. In the meantime, anyone have any suggestions on as good a setup that I can do with roughly $2000??? Earlier I was talking about going with the Yamaha RX-V1500 receiver. I can pick it up here for $599. Decent price???? If so I'll snag it now, then find me a cheapie set of speakers and all till I get back. But any recommendations from here would be great, I still might be able to find it here somewhere. Thanks to everyone who have steered me in the right direction.

Thanks,

John
