hello audioholics,
your input has helped me make much better decisions with my hobby. i am back again for more advice. below is my situation:

my bluray player stopped working and now i need to replace it. since i am going to be spending money, i figured why not address some other areas as well.

now for a little about my listening habits. they are a 50/50 split between movies and music. i listen to cds on my bluray player and i use rhapsody to listen to music as well. i just got the new "rock smith" game for ps3 (my son has a ps3 in his room so i play in there but i may start getting into gaming).

now for my needs:
-i want something that will provide the best video and audio for watching blurays
-i want something that will provide the best audio for my cds
-i want to be able to play rock smith in my living room

questions:
-will a ps3 address all of my needs?
-how does rhapsody compare to cd? rhapsody is built into my rxv2065. it steams at 192kps

below is my equipment:
samsung 60"led
bluray (broken)
yamaha rxv2065
emotiva xpa2
emotiva xpa5
def tech bp7002 front mains
def tech clr3000 center
def tech bp7006 surrounds
def tech UIW/BPA rear surrounds
dual emotiva ultra 10 subs

Well, to meet all of your criteria in a single unit, you would obviously need a ps3. It is a fine bluray/cd player.

As for comparing rhapsody to cds - 192kbps (i'm assuming that's mp3) isn't all that high quality for an mp3 (v0 would be nice), but it's not horrible. Better than most streaming services I guess - of course, it is far from cd quality. Whether you can hear the difference between that and a cd is up to you though.

i dont mind getting 3 seperate units if it will provide better entertainment. it would be great if the PS3 was "great" for all 3 media types. however, if a seperate bluray player performs better than a PS3 for movies than maybe i need to look at getting a seperate bluray player. if a seperate cd player plays cds better than the ps3, then i would need to look at getting a seperate cd player. and then i would need to find out if there is a bluray player that would be great for both movies and cds. are you following me? i dont want to sacrifice quality to save money or rack space.

seperatly, in regards to cd players. i saw a "technics" sl-p1200 cd player for sale. this seems to be something a disc jocky would use. any thoughts on it?
