Hi,
I’m still new to the scene (heh) but I try to learn how things work. I’m doing well, thanks to everyone on this forum.
However, I have an issue I can’t resolve myself. I cannot get Dolby Vision to work through my receiver for the life of me. I have…
AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A1060 (Firmware 1.27, DV-ready)
Ultra Bluray-player: Oppo UDP-203 (Firmware 20XEU-50-0817 – beta firmware, DV-ready)
TV: LG OLED B6 (Firmware 04.31.25)
Question: Do Yamaha and LG provide beta firmware or is it only the Oppo that does?
My AVR output is set to the ARC-HDMI port (port two) on the TV. My Bluray player is connected to input port three through HDMI on the AVR.
I am using cheaper cables; although they’re claimed to be verified. However, at what lengths? They list the same stats from 0,5 metres to 5, without any difference in specifications except length. Mine is only three metres long though, and the one I have from my PC is five metres. It handles HDR fine, so I figure this one should be able to get DV at three metres. Is the difference in bandwidth substantial comparing HDR10 vs. DV? Cable used: Goobay Premium High Speed HDMI, 3m, 4K@60Hz, 3D, 18-gbps.
I have turned on the secondary video mode on the Yamaha in the advanced menu (hold down Straight then press Power button). This didn’t help. I installed beta drivers on the Oppo, did a factory reset on all my units. My receiver is set to pass through the signal, and not process it. HDMI-control is off. I have tried to turn these HDMI-controls off and on in various combinations though, but to no avail.
Dolby Vision works on Netflix, and it also works when I route directly from the Bluray player to the TV, then having audio-only sent via HDMI to AVR.
There’s something strange that has happened a few times though, using only one HDMI-cable. Just as I start the Ultra HD Bluray, the studio’s logo looks funny; an obvious artefact caused by something. For instance, in Despicable Me, Universal’s animation/image with their name and the earth globe on it can be pink, or green. This issue is resolved when I get in to the menus for the film. However, the Bluray player suddenly think it’s sending a Dolby Vision signal, whereas my TV says it’s HDR. I can tell there’s a conflict as the Oppo won’t let me change HDR-settings from the remote “when Dolby Vision is active”, quoting the Oppo machine. And, when I check the TV, the settings are set to my HDR-calibration, and not DV. This confirms the conflict, it seems to me.
I have tried so many ways to get this working. I at least managed to get it working by using two HDMI-cables, but I’d prefer if I didn’t have to do that. I bought a more expensive AVR partially because I wanted DV built-in.
As of right now, all the SimpLink-like functions are off on all devices. Should it be turned on for a certain device? Is there something I have missed? Could it nevertheless be an issue with the cables? Hidden compatibility issues? Do they have beta firmware, LG and Yamaha?
Any other ideas?
