Does the above material have any valuable acoustic properties? I got the board for 10$ and can and will return it if it doesn't. Should I cut it up and stack it to make it thicker, or something? Should I return it? Buy more? I originally wanted to buy AFB, but they didn't have any.

Thanks so much for your speedy replies and efforts! Best wishes! 8 D

It will do little to nothing in terms of in-room performance. That type of material is meant to use more on houses to provide some additional isolation from outside noise.

i disagree. i have 3 4x8' sheets of that(what looks just like that), covered in black felt. hanging 2" off my flexi-core ceiling . slap echo was an ISSUE, not any more.

is it perfect ? who am i to say. but i know it is good for something.
and at $8 a sheet, well.....

Will it maybe do a little something instead of hard drywall? Yes. Is it going to be anywhere near as effective as something like mineral wool or OC703 of the same thickness and reach anywhere near as low in frequency? No.

It's called SOUND STOP. It is designed specifically to help attenuate noise transmission between spaces - not to absorb sound within a space.
