audioholics seems to recommend blue jean in their lower priced home theater recommendations but then switches to impact acoustics for the higher priced systems. is there much if any difference between the two companies? blue jean seems lower priced and with the ability to customize versus impact.

any thoughts?

thank you

Yeah i've noticed the same thing. The audioholics website recommends DVIgear, but everyone on the forum goes with bluejeans. Is it that you don't get that much more quality going with DVIgear as opposed to bluejeans to justify paying 3x the price? Although after being here for 2 days I know i'll never buy another monster cable again.

This is not the first time we've had this subject going on, but I'll post my personal experience and opinion on the two companies, since I've bought my cables from both of them.
1. Blue Jeans - IMHO, these guys are the best. Their RCA-tipped interconnects are totally no-glitz, made with probably the best commercial cabling out there. The RCA plugs are industrial quality Canare connectors. I work in the medical imaging industry, and these connectors are equal quality to the ones we use in multi-million dollar imaging systems. (BTW, we use BNCs, not RCAs, but the quality is equivalent.) Lastly, you can call these guys on the phone and actually talk to the people who make them. They will make them in any length you want If anyone else out there does that, I've not heard of them.

2. Impact Acoustics/Cables to Go: Beautifully made cables, a lot showier than the Blue Jeans stuff, if that's important to you. IMHO, their more expensive "Impact" line is not such a great value compared to Monster, but the lower-priced Velocity line is pretty good. Their customer service is quite good (I had an HDMI cable go bad, and they sent a replacement immediately with no hassles).
Of course, that's just my opinion...I could be wrong;)

Just the connector itself: I had a set of video components made by Blue Jeans with RCA on the TV end and BNC on the DVD player side (BNC are a locking plug-most RCA plugs are not).

Bryan...hard to go wrong w/ BJC...

dont want to jack this thread...but monster is overpriced and all advertising and no quality, what about a simple roll of acoustic research speaker cable sold at best buy, it is oxygen free, what about there rca's? not sure of the resistance or material used, i would assume oxygen free, just dont see the point of spending $1k + on speaker cable or rca's when all i have found to be important is to use a decent oxygen free copper cable...in the shortest lengths possible

All 3 of these vendors (Impact, Bluejeans, DVI gear) make great product. Bluejeans usually winds up being the best value, especially when you customize lengths. I personally use all Bluejeans for my speaker cables and interconnects in my systems. Impact offers nicer fit and finish. I haven't tested the Bluejeans HDMI cable but Impact and DVI Gear have very solid offerings, especially if you need an active solution for extended lengths.

The Acoustic Research stuff is good, but can be had for a much better price online than in Best Buy. I used to buy all AR stuff. The quality is ok but I've had problems with their TOSlink cables (fiber optic) coming loose and not having a very good connection. I ended up replacing them with optical cables from Blues Jeans, which were cheaper and better constructed, IMO. Plus the BJ cables fit much more snugly, they haven't come loose and you can feel the difference when you plug them in, very snug connection. I gave my AR optical cables to a friend. I couldn't tell any difference sonically between the two brands.
