Blu-ray w/NetFlix: Samsung or LG?

I am in need of a blu-ray player for my HT. As a current NetFlix subscriber, I really like the idea of streaming NetFlix content. That said, I narrowed my choices to Samsung P2550 ($350), or LG BD300($300).

Since my Onkyo TX-SR602 doesn't have an HDMI input, am I better off with...
running an Optical Digital Audio line from the LG,
or the Samsung offers 1 Optical Digital Audio,
or the Samsung offers 1 7.1-channel analog output???

Assuming everything else was equal, which route will give me the best sound (currently running a 5.1 system)?

Thank you in advance!!!
Peace,
Andrew

Does your reciever have 5.1 analog inputs?

Does the samsung have 5.1 analog output? or is it just 7.1?

According to my User Guide...
"DVD IN (28, 29)
Here you can connect a DVD player. Input jacks
include S-Video, composite video, and analog
audio. You can connect a DVD player’s 2-channel
analog audio output or 5.1-channel analog audio
output."

So I guess the Onkyo has 5.1 Analog input.
It appears that the Samsung has full 7.1 output, but couldn't I just use the 6 outputs I need
and skip the "surround back"?
Bottom line, is this advised, or is the Optical Digital Audio line a better signal/connection?

Thx, Andrew

If you skip the surround back outputs you will loose two tracks of audio. This will be more noticable on some DVD's than others.

Unless the Blueray Player has the ability to matrix the 7.1 into 5.1 I would hook it up through optical and let the reciever do the matrixing.

You will not lose the tracks. The 7.1 will be rematrixed back into 5.1.

You want the Samsung for two reasons.

#1) The Samsung has Reon upscaling. This will make standard definition video look tolerable!

#2) The Samsung has multichannel analog outputs which will tide you over until you get a receiver with HDMI that can decode DTS-HD MA.

#3) The only reason to get the LG is to save money--period!
