Blu ray Source - direct connection via optical hdmi to Samsung 75” or just go thru Yam CX-A5200 via arc hdmi?

Any advantage to connecting a 4k Panasonic BluRay directly to a Samsung TV with a high quality optical hdmi cable Vs simply using one of the hdmi inputs on a Yamaha pre/pro cx-A5200? Sure would be simpler the latter way…

I wouldn't call a connection to the tv from a bluray player as direct particularly, but am mostly about the audio myself. I'd just route it thru the pre-pro/avr for convenience and see no reason why the tv would be a better initial connection particularly even for video except perhaps gamers and lag time concerns?

no gaming planned so if no difference with picture then to pre/pro it is. Thnx.

You could maybe, possibly, perhaps get the tiniest itty bitty better picture from a direct connection to the TV. But, if not an eARC capable TV and pre/pro, you would lose lossless audio from discs.

There is no reason not to run all of your sources through your Yamaha receiver. That's what it is there for. There is rarely any quality hit when using an AVR, and certainly a nicer Yamaha is going to have even less of an issue getting that audio and video as perfect as possible. At least, I haven't heard any reports of issues and complaints with 4K video on Yamaha receivers.
