Since HD-dud has announced it's death, blu-ray is beginning to trend some serious adoption gains.

IE....
Title Release Date "% BD"
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End..............12/04/07....3.7
Simpsons Movie...............................................12/18/07....2.8
Michael Clayton...............................................02/19/08....5.5
30 Days of Night..............................................02/26/08....8.9
No Country for Old Men.....................................03/11/08....9.8
Hitman...........................................................03/11/08....12.6

If you ask me, this is simply AMAZING!! The fact that BD is taking 10+% share from the DVD market on some new/day/date releases this quickly after DUD died is eye opening.

I haven't bothered even researching what the selling point of Blu-Ray is. But then I'm still angry over having to replace my entire movie collection from VHS to dvd. I'll be darned if I do it again to Blu-Ray, especially considering the price.

Then don't replace them...just buy new titles or ones that you don't have. I have replaced quite a few of them because the improvement in picture quality is SO much better on the BD version; others not so much and those I can pass on and pick up later when they are on sale if at all.

I agree 100%. New-release DVDs sell for $19 or less, and older titles for $10 or less. BDs sell for $35 whether the movie is new or old ($25 is considered a good sale price!) Replacing only part of my collection is not an option, because watching BD would spoil me for SD. The players are also pricey, and I would need a new TV besides.:(

A good sale price would be more like $12-13. I am still averaging about $17 a disc, with fewer sales going on this time of year on BD. Online, the typical new release BD is about $20-$25. Every once in a while I will have to break down and actually pay $26-27 for a new release instead of waiting for it to be shipped to me.

So let me put it to you this way: which makes more sense? Paying $20 for an inferior product or paying $5 more for far superior one?

Personally IF the BD version was much better, all other things being equal, I would pay the extra 5$ for the BD version.

On the other hand, in a Macro Economics sense, it would be better to simply not buy any software at prices above 20$. This lowering of demand at the 20$+ price would do a lot to force prices down ...

nice point...
I always love how the "Low Def" crowd exaggerates the prices to rationalize to others their lack of adoption. I just picked up "I am Legend" and the remastered "Fifth Element" for $18.99 & $14.99 respectively. Somebody will always choose to be stuck in a low tech reality.....better them than me!!;)

Don't know where you live, but it sure isn't here!
I definitely couldn't afford any TV series season sets on BD, and that is what I find myself preferring to movies lately.

Check Amazon - they have been having probably the best sales lately. Also Walmart, of all places, has been having some decent deals, though they do tend to have a limited selection in store and limited quantities also (I Am Legend and No Country For Old Men both sold out in the first day here). Target has run a few deals, including a 2 for $30 about 2 weeks ago on some decent titles. Target and Walmart both have regular pricing that is in the $30 range, which is definitely too high, so you have to keep your eyes peeled for the deals. I have Frys here and the average price is about $22-$25, with sale pricing between $10 and $16. They had a 2 for $30 last week and I missed it, and there were 2 titles I wanted too.

I buy my BD's on eBay, at about $15 - $20 a pop.
