I currently have a 5.1 audio setup. If I add a BlueRay player, is it essential that I add back speakers to make it a 7.1 system? Or is it just fine to run BR thru a 5.1 system, or would it be compromising on the sound.

From what I've read around here, you'll be just fine with your 5.1 speaker set-up.

i currently have a 5.1 system with my ps3 but am in the process of upgrading to a 7.1 or 7.2 (yes i realize blu ray only goes up to 7.1) but the 5.1 does work very nice and is enough to get by... i just want to use it to its full capabilities :D

I think 5.1 is fine. Although I have 7.1, I don't notice a dramatic difference.

I agree.

I've done 5.1, 6.1, & 7.1.

If you have 7.1, then go with 7.1. Otherwise, it's no big deal. It's all good - 5.1, 7.1, etc.
