BLU-RAY advice - $150 price range

Hey All

I am looking for a new BLURAY player. Roughly $150 price range. Key features I want are good picture quality, wireless connectivity, like stream Netflix and Amazon Prime Movie. I have a low cost unit now that pixelates from time to time, seems like it happens during busy action type scenes. This will be connecting to my 60" plasma in a dedicated theatre room. I don't have to have 3D or anything crazy. I do not need any analog outs, this will run via HDMI to my Onkyo 805.

I really know nothing about Blu-Ray players, never done any research.

Thanks

Jeff

at that price range I would go with either a Panasonic or Sony model.

Sony BDP-S4500(B) is what I would look in your budget. Dont have wireless, but you can hook it up with ethernet.

I must have wireless, this on the 3rd floor of the house with no internet for 2 floors. I have a strong wireless signal.

Thanks, any specific models to focus on....I will likely buy off Amazon.

You can always buy a wireless hub with Ethernet outs, but that will add another $100 or so. That is how my setup is constructed for my AV rack, as it is away from my internet source.

Well if I have to buy a wireless hub, then that would make my budget $250.

I like the Panasonic players, but mine is a bit older, the 220 model.

But, nowadays I just use Xbox One for BR.

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with a Sony. We've got three and love 'em.

Actually, I don't think you have to even spend that much.

So I just bought a Samsung BD-J5900. I don't have a remote for my 60" Samsung plasma so I leaned that direction. Was rated very well and has the Amazon functionality I needed. Thanks for the help everyone.

I just bought the Star Wars disc set so I hope to start it over the weekend.

Cheers

Hopefully Samsung has got better with the reader unit since I had mine. With some discs the player kept awful noise when reading the disc. This was 2 years ago.

Please, let us know how your Blu-ray player performs as a streaming device with wireless.

I would have recommended a wireless streaming device, like a Roku player instead, since that's what it is designed for.

I would also point out that your streaming issues are most likely streaming issues since that's what usually causes the problems you are describing.

My current DVDs player did not have streaming capability for Amazon prime. So it was never used.

I firmly believe that the ROUTER is now the MOST IMPORTANT piece of gear in most setups!

Don't skimp on it, that causes nothing but frustration.

I can stream and distribute in my tv room via Apple TV with no issues.
