Netflixed this one tonight. I am a big fan of the anime film but this one didn't look quite good enough to see in the theater. The BD is pretty good however. There are some scenes that were well done; almost straight from the anime, but there were some scenes that were very poorly done. PQ is hit or miss, sometimes good, others a bit soft. The story is a bit modified, but still holds more or less to the fundamentals. Some of the better scenes from the anime are left out, which is disappointing, but they added others that were fun in their own way. The shining point for this one is the DTS-HD MA track that is a bit hot, has a ton of LFE and while surround use is not among the best, the track sounded very clear and well done. It comes with an R rating and says "bloody violence" but the anime is actually quite a bit more violent than this film IMO. Worth a rent for fans and new comers alike.
