Blockbuster Online Raises Prices by $3/month

Will wonders never cease? I have personally complained of poor service and outlined performance problems with Blockbuster's online rental system since inception. With almost a "slap in the face", Blockbuster has unexpectedly announced that it will raise its prices by $3/month for their popular unlimited 3-out-at-a-time rental plan. Apparently to some corporate exec it makes logical sense to, in answer to poor customer service and a system that never truly made it out of beta, RAISE the rates on your customers in an effort to show them that you care. We recommend switching to Netflix. Read more for why...

I haven't had a problem with Blockbuster for years, but I guess that's because I started using NetFlix when it first came out, & haven't had anything to do with Blockbuster since.

Ive been a member of Netflix for ages. I remember when the DVD's used to come from the westcoast rathe then a local distrution center. I dont like alot of service providers but Netflix is great. One of the few things in life that is what it is. Fast reliable service at a good price.

That move may give Netflix the green flag to raise prices $2 a month. The Netflix execs are probably meeting now, deciding how long to wait to "steal the former Blockbuster members" from the recent Blockbuster price hike.

Either business is very good at Blockbuster and can't keep up with demand, or they aren't making profit margins.

Clint,

I've been with blockbuster for 3 months and its always been 17.99/mo. I didn't even know some people were paying $3 less than me! So in reality, its only a price increase for those of you that had this lower rate. Same price for me, and free weekly rental from the blockbuster across the street. Nothings changed, but you scared me since I thought my rate was going up $3 to $20.99.

I love buying things online. I buy everything online. Hell I even bought my refrigerator online. But I just cant get on board with online DVD rentals. I enjoy the trip to the video store and walking the isles with with a fresh bag of pop-corn in my hand (free at my local place). I need to hold the package and read the back ... read the reviews. (yes I know you can do this online).

That and I just don't want one more monthly bill.

I love Netflix. As a fan of "B-movies" (primarily horror, but also some sci-fi), I find Netflix's selection incredible.

I have had one selection not ship due to being out of stock, but out of so far 40 movies, that's not bad at all...and the price for the 3-in-1 package is cheaper than renting one a week at blockbuster (I tend to end up with 3 a week, with how I am slackish in sending them back).

I haven't been that big of a blockbuster fan after they dedicated half their store to videogames and selling movies, and not renting movies. Hollywood video is OK, but the one near my place seems to have too many beat up discs for my liking.

So Netflix wins!
