Anyone know if there is a way to adjust the black levels on a Panisonic 42" Plasma (TH42PX80U) i recently got u-verse and tried to calibrate it using their test grid but cannot get away from the black crush using HDMI. i can get a decent picture using component cables but the HDMI is noticably better just dont know how or if you can with out going into ther service menu to adjust the black level using HDMI

I think that you're going past my knowledge here, but have you tried adjusting the "Black Level" control in the Picture menu? You can set that to "Light" or "Dark."

yea i have it set to light the problem is from what i have read is that the u-verse box and my panny arnt communicating where one the black level is 0 and the other is 16 (using HDMI) so when calibrating using their test grid which has a bar pattern with 0 being white and 10 being black (nubers in the boxes) you cant see the 10 in the box its just black i was able to adjust it right for component but not hdmi although the rest of the picture using hdmi looks way better its just suffers from black crush. NOTE...if u-verse didnt use so much compression way more than cable this wouldnt be an issue cause component would be fine....

[On a side note, I started Googling for "TH42PX80U black level adjustment," and it listed this thread...all three previous posts. It was only two minutes after the third post. Scary.]
