For being a home theater in a box (HTIB) and for the price, this is a pretty good sounding system. I have seen it online for a little cheaper, but still not a bad price at $459.99 at CC.

Most people here would recommend purchasing seperates to generally get a better sound for the price, but for as little as $399.99 online it may be difficult to put together a full 7.1 system such as this.

The Onkyo HTIB are pretty good bang for the buck. The weak point of course is the speakers but unlike other HTIB the receiver and dvd player are separate pieces and will continue to be useful even if you do decide to upgrade the speakers in the future.

The receivers and dvd players they include are equivalent to the 5xx series although they change the model numbers to make it appear different.

I don't think you can go wrong with an Onkyo HTIB as a first step.
