For a second there I was planning my trip to Costco to buy a $300 50" Philips plasma. Then I realized that it's $300 off :) :D

The Best Buy ads are still down...does anyone remember if the Toshiba 50" plasma for $1699 was an early bird or two day sale? I went and checked it out...not too shabby. I don't feel like being in line for 20 hours to get it, though. I asked two managers to verify for me. Although they had copies of the ad, their lips were sealed. Nice find, Buckeye.
FWIW, for those in SC that have not heard, there is no sales tax on anything Fri or Sat after T-day.:D

Edit...nevermind; it's back up today. Looks like I'll ring in Black Friday waiting in line @ BB if I want one for $1699 :-(

Will they take orders over the phone? No stores anywhere around me. And do you know what time they open?

Here's the Microcenter XBox360 advertisement. The dates are November fifteenth to December third. I live near Denver, CO so the dates may be different elsewhere.

Rvanya, the ad states that it's "in-store only", but I can't claim to have tried to buy anything from them over the phone in the past.

Anyone have any deals on projectors or receivers? I know all the major chains have their sales, but are there any online AV stores that are in this?

Although this year's BF sales suck, many people still brave the long, cold night for that bargain. Out of curiosity, I drove by my local Fry's, BB and CC at 10:00PM. There were already hundreds of people in line at each store. These folks endure long hours and risk getting sick in the process just to save a few bucks. It's amazing how we have become slaves to things we own or want to own.

I wasn't one who waited out in the cold, but my wife did talk me into getting up early to hit a few stores. I dropped her off at a Kohls, and took off myself to do some bargain shopping.

Circuit City and BB were madhouses early this morning. The parking lots were full. I wanted to hit Staples to get a few things for the pc - and possibly strike a big LCD or laptop, but the line was a hundred feet long.

Walmart was open and being next door, I thought I'd head in. The lines weren't bad, and people were actually sane. We didn't plan on shoppnig at Walmart, so I didn't have an agenda. I grabbed an ad, and picked up a dozen things from their early bird sale. EVERYTHING WAS IN STOCK! Kudos to Walmart! IIRC, I got a H2 Hummer 1:10th scale RC for my son for $20, three sets of Hotwheels cars (20 pack) for $10 each - that's .50 cents a car - nice, two 6.2" dvd players for the kids (on trips) at $49 each, a 10" dvd player that mounts to the headrest for $169 (may return it, the headrests in our Pilot aren't user friendly), and a few toys for my daughter and younger son.

After Walmart, I noticed things had calmed down at Staples, so I went in there, and surprisingly there was still quite a bit left from their early bird sale. I must have picked up a half dozen things in there at rediculous prices. APC battery backup/surge protector at $19, 200 gig internal hard drive $19, and a dvd r/rw internal burner for $19. The guy in front of me got the last two $399 laptops. I hope he has trouble with the rebates (one per household).

Then on I went to pick up the wife at Kohls. She said the place was a madhouse, and couldn't believe Walmart wasn't the same way. We went over to Target, and it was a madhouse. Got a few things there and drove by Circuit City. It had calmed down, so we went in and picked up a few DVD's for $2.99, a 20" LCD Acer monitor for $179 (no where on the entire internet did anyone have one for under $250 - I think it retailed for $350), and a dvd recorder for $57 for the kids so they quit taking over the family room (they hog the HD-DVR). Comp USA was next door, so we thought we'd check to see what they had left. It was probably 8:30am by this point, so we figured everything would have been picked over. We found a 2.4ghz phone for $29 with a digital recorded and two satellite phones, and a 2gig secure digital card for our camera for $24.

All in all, it was about 80% successful. I would have liked to pick up a cheap laptop or pc for myself and daughter, but BB and CC were nuts and those went quick for those pulling an all nighter. The cheaper 19" LCD's went quick, but the 20" Acer I purchased has a 3yr labor/material warranty, so it's probably worth the extra cash. Plus the resolution on this thing is outstanding.

I'm tired. Going to watch the rest of the LSU/Arkansas game and down a few Yuengling beers. Happy holidays folks. Now to payoff this credit card bill. Thank goodness the roofing business is way up from the recent hail storm. :)

I' am not one to wait in a line more than 10-15 minutes. So I was not getting any Black Friday door buster deals, or so I thought. Curiously, that $999 42" Panasonic Plasma HDTV for the Best Buy door buster was being price matched by my local Sears(which was not very busy at all at around 7 A.M., with my wait being in the 5 minute range). With the price match difference discounts(10 percent of difference vs. Thanksgiving sale price of the TV at Sears) it was about $950 plus taxes. In addition, with a little effort, you can also get a rebate for up to $200 from Panasonic for this television. $950 for a 42" Panasonic plasma HDTV($750 potentially)? Hey, who could resist?

Very nice, Chris. I think I'll start an annual "Black Friday" champion, and elect you winner for 2006. $750 - if you get it for that, has to take the cake.

BTW, how's the picture?

Don't know about the picture, the unit will be delivered to the store for pick up on Monday, supposedly. Even then, I will only be able to offer purely subjective opinions on the image quality. :) But I did play with the picture setting in the store on the floor unit, and default is horrible. But when I reduced sharpening by a large degree and changed contrast/brightness and modes, it looked fine at a glance. Strange thing.... Sears did not even require the item to be in stock in the store, or even at the Best Buy... they just price matched and ordered it for me on the fly. Over the years, I have grown to appreciate the Sears no hassle customer service --- at least compared to what I have experienced at Best Buy and Circuit City.

Hi, -Chris (with a hyphen in front of your name :) ),

I've never had a problem with Best Buy, but I lost respect for Circuit City many years ago when we shopped for a large Sony CRT TV set. This was maybe the late 1990s or maybe 2000. We shopped around, looking for the best deal in a 34- to 36-inch set. CC had an impressive display of sets. When I asked one of the sales people if he could price-match something and if we could get a free Sony TV stand that was made just for this model, he said he'd have to call someone to see what he could do. He took his sweet time, so I walked around the department. Turns out our salesman was calling his floor manager who was at another on-floor desk about ten feet from our salesman. I managed to eavesdrop a little bit--the manager didn't know I was the customer in question, and I learned this was all supposed to be hush-hush--don't let the customer know what's going on. "Tell him 'so-and-so,'" the manager said. Eventually the salesman ended his call, and returned to me. He could match the price, but not the free Sony stand. He could give me a demo stand not made by Sony, one that was over-sized, chipped, and scratched. "No thanks,' I said, and we left. Tricks like this disgust me.

We ended up getting the same set at Sears for the low price I had in mind, and I was able to get them to throw in the matching Sony stand.

Good buy on your set. I hope you're happy with it.

Chris (no hyphen in front :p )
