Ok where would I look for information about my new setup?
I have a 32 Sharp aquos and setup last night, went into the
DVD played and changed setting to 16:9 Cinima (and normal)
and running it with good cables and everything.
Tried all different TV settings and still getting BlackBars on top
and bottom!
Now I was watching Batman Begining (Widescreen version)

I did see in the manual that there are like two formats on DVD 1.83 and 1.78 or something close!

Any help? and how can you tell the format of the DVD prior to putting on the show?

New TV and I want that sucka filled up all the way!

Widescreen aspect ratios can range from 1.66:1 to 2.4:1. A 16:9 screen equates to 1.77:1. In order to fill your TV's screen requires a zoom adjustment in your TV.

Batman Begins has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, which is wider than your widescreen TV which has an aspect ratio 1.78:1... so you will have black bars on the top and bottom. Just like the director wanted you to see it.

Me I would leave it letterboxed... you get to see more of the movie.

I believe you are supposed to watch the movie, not the black bars.

I agree with jawilljr - I'd rather have the movie look correct in it's OAR than be compressed to fit the screen with a zoom feature. I want to see as much of what is supposed to be seen, and if that means there are black bars above and below, I can live with that.

Thanks guy. The Article helped. And now I know my TV's aspect ratio...
I have to agree that the blackbars are tollerable and I'd much rather see the director cut. you never know what you miss if you dont see it. Could make or break a movie!
