just got this i today. great album.

problem is i cant access the multichannel mixes on either the dvd-a or dvd-v side of the disk.

there is a menu, which has track listings, and two tabs bellow the tracks. my screen somehow cuts off the labels of these two bottom tabs, so i dont know what they are for. but i can click on them. problem is, all that happens when i do is that the cursor jumps to track 1.

i'm using a denon 2200. is there a default setting on the player that i need to fiddle with to access the 5.1 mixes.

any help appreciated.

The two tabs on the bottom are 2ch or multichannel. When you pick either one, it starts playing in that mode. If the player is set up correctly, you should be able to hear the difference right away because one will use the center and the other won't. I'll have to check later as to which is stereo and which is m/c. I bought this DVD-A because a number of people said it was good, and I have been a long time fan since the days of the Sugarcubes. I don't really find it to be some of her best work to be honest. Her DVD video compilation, which includes a number of tracks from this album and a ton of interesting/bizzare videos, is better IMO.

For DVD-A on the 2200, you can't have it default to one or the other, but you do have to set the player for multichannel rather than stereo (assuming you are using the multichannel analog outputs).

Go to the etc settings tab in the set-up menu and set Player mode to audio. this will fix your problem.

stoked! got it to work. j_garcias suggestion was all it took. thanks guys.

say mr garcia, while were at it, why would one ever use the "2 channel" option in the audio channel menue. i only use analogue 4.1 outs which works for dvd or 2 channel cd.

is there any advantage e.g in signal purity using the "2 channel option"?

cheers

You would use the 2ch option in a case where you only have the R&L analog connections hooked up to the receiver. The thing about DVD-A though is, depending on the disc, they usually default to m/c even if you only have the player connected in stereo (its a disc thing, not a player thing), and you will only hear the R&L channels - the center, surrounds and sub will be missing (that's what would happen with my 2200). Some discs won't start playing until you have chosen stereo or surround, but many just start playing, and because the disc doesn't know what your setup is, it starts the m/c track. SACD is different - you can set it to select the 2ch or m/c track (if present) by default.

The main difference in the 2200's setup is that you will get an additional menu when you have selected the multichannel audio config, which allows you to adjust size, delay and levels within the player. I don't remember if you have that option for stereo.

OK, threw it in yesterday. The right and left buttons toggle between stereo and 5.1, but be careful because it looks like hitting either toggles - if you hit left twice, it will toggle from stereo to 5.1 and back. The up and down buttons allow you to select tracks. Kind of a goofy menu.
