BJC Belden S-1 cable bad

I bought a couple of Blue Jeans Belden Series-1 cables a couple of years ago, 4-foot in length. They were much more affordable compared to monster, but not cheap by any means. Of the two cables, one of them has been in use for some time, and it works quite well. Unfortunately, a couple of days ago I hooked up my new PS3 with the other BJC cable, but it kept dropping signal every few minutes. A couple of hours later I started to watch a Bluray movie, and in the middle of the movie the cable just stopped working completely. I can't even get any signal from it.

For the time being I have pirated my cheaper (noname) brand HDMI cable from my CD player, but I need to buy another cable to replace the Belden S-1.

Since I will be using this on my PS3 for hi-def sound and video, I need to have a HDMI 1.3a compatible cable. Can anyone suggest an online source that has decent, affordable cables?

Thanks.

Hi. Monoprice.com has good cables at extremely affordable prices. I use their HDMI cables and have had no issues whatsoever.

Also, I'd suggest contacting BJC about the cable that you believe is defective. Perhaps they will replace it for you.

I second this suggestion. I will honestly be surprised if they don't offer something.

I will second both suggestions...

www.monoprice.com has high quality VERY inexpensive cables. Be clear - inexpensive, not cheap.

And give BJC a call, they may hook you up.

I'd also suggest contacting BJC regarding possible warranty as I've dealt with them a few times and have nothing but praise for them. Sounds like the solder probably broke on one of the terminations.

For alternative cables, consider looking at some of the new cables available that are specced and tested at 21Gbps. Even MONSTER cable such as the M2000HD available from eBay isn't too badly priced compared with their retail prices :)

However, as the other guys have said, Monoprice have extremely well priced HDMI cables and unless you are extremely fussy, I doubt you'd notice any differences in picture or sound quality with a correctly terminated HDMI cable. I have some quite expensive Kordz HDMI cables and some el cheapo out of the box ones and truthfully, I can't tell the difference. The main cable run to my projector is just a 24awg Selbyacoustics (the Australian equivalent of Monoprice) HDMI cable 12 metres long and it passes a full 1080p signal passively just fine.

Thanks all.

I thought of calling BJC, but since the cable was sitting around for 2 years, I didn't want to make a fuss. It was never used, but they wouldn't know that, and I wouldn't have any way to prove it.

Maybe I'll give them a shot.

Meanwhile, I'll take a look over at Monoprice.

Talked to the BJC folks, they said there is nothing they can do (as I suspected). However, out of sympathy they offered to sell me a b-stock (return) Series-2 cable for half off retail. When I asked for the actual price, my email bounced back for some reason. Oh well, it was nice of them to offer anything at all.

Fortunately, I already ordered a cable from Monoprice, but I always like to have one spare cable around just in case, so if they respond then maybe I'll get another cable.

Have you tried the other HDMI from BJC that you have been using for a while with the PS3? Try it and see if that works without dropouts and plays BD all the way through?

No, I haven't tried it. I've got it wired to my Motorola DVR, 1080i, and it has been flawless.

One reason to swap that good cable in the place of the one that is acting up, or so we think, and see if things get better. :D
