.BIN files, what is the problem with these things?

.bin files are making me super angry. I don't think I have ever been so angry about a computer problem than I am right now. I downloaded a .bin file which requires Poweriso to "unpack it" or whatever. So I download the program and register. I go to unpack the stupid thing and low and behold I still can't utilize the file. It is now recognizing the file as a poweriso file, but I think it is supposed to be an .avi file. Please, for the love of sanity, help me figure out why I am not as smart as the computer.

.Bin files are generally like an .ISO file made to be burned to a disc and than utilized. If you want to unpack it on your computer I suggest getting ISOBuster. It always did the trick for me .

It worked, but through all the BS compression and decompression it lost it's quality. I wish they would leave the compression alone, it didn't save time or much space.

Thank you for that program, it works tons better than the Poweriso junk, I hate that program.

No problem. You could try to burn it to disc using something like nero (thats what bin files are actually designed for) but I doubt it will make a difference I have a feeling that the original .avi file wasn't the greatest quality to start with.

Probably right on the quality. I hate Nero. The software for it came with my computer and I removed it because it was annoying.

Really? What program do you use to burn your material? Nero is what I have been using for years and I love it. It gets everything done quickly and easily.

try imgburn ....but it only burns images !

Thats the thing, why should I have a ton of separate programs when I nero does everything I need, including burning images?

That was my first impression of it too when I first bought a copy of it a few years ago. I was used to using Roxio Easy CD Creator and the Nero interface was just more complicated to do even simple things.

Now I'm used to it and it is what I use although I don't burn CDs very often anymore.

i started with Roxio too ... it came with the burner drive ... then the succeeding drives came with nero too. I hate change, so if there's no problem, I stick with something. (like a Koala bear)

avaserfi is right, I burn the .BIN "image" straight to disc using Nero or I use DAEMON tools to make a virtual disc on the HD.

In regards to using nero or some other burning program. I don't use them because the computer is connected directly to my TV and sound system, so I don't have a need to burn.

.BIN files usally come with a .CUE file that is a sort of "cue sheet" for the file. (tells what files go where, etc)

Maybe the .cue was bad?

You would be surprised how often bin files don't come with a queue sheet as lately they have been made useless due to more advanced burning programs not needing to be told what to do by the cue.
