You need to say how much you are willing to spend. There is no point in recommending speakers that cost thousands if you are only willing to pay a few hundred.
As for how it all will sound, the speakers (which includes the subwoofer) will matter more than anything else you buy. So if sound quality is what matters to you, spend the biggest part of your budget on speakers, and get a receiver that is adequate to your needs, but is not more expensive than it needs to be (unless you have money to burn). For brands of receivers, I would look at Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, and Pioneer (not necessarily in that order). For subwoofers, I would go with SVS, budget permitting. For the other speakers, you need to go out and listen to different brands, and different types (e.g., horns, domes, ribbons, etc.) that are in your price range. The reason is, there is no such thing as a perfect speaker, so you need to pick something whose vices are such that you can live with them. And if your budget is low, you will need to be more accepting of vices, but you still need to listen to different speakers, as the differences can be dramatic.
If you want to listen at volume levels loud enough to do permanent damage to your hearing, look for speakers that are efficient and capable of playing loud. That will generally involve horns. (I recommend that you don't listen at levels loud enough to damage your hearing, but that is up to you to decide.)
