Bic Acoustech HT-65

So after a bunch of trouble with UPS and not finding my house and having to drive to the distrobution center to get it, I finally have my new center channel. All I can say is WOW I've never heard a movie sound so good. First off the thing is huge, about 4 times the size of my previous sony center. It's so much clearer, and for a horn tweeter it isnt even bright. I need to run the auto setup and auto EQ again with the new speaker, but I'm impatient and had to start watching movies now. The thing is gorgeous looking with the piano gloss black on the tops and bottom. I was a little dissapointed, there was a chip in the gloss black missing when I got it like it had been dropped when I first took it out of the box, but it sounds amazing, I got a great deal on it (about half the going price, thnx Ubid), and I dont think its worth sending it back and paying the return shipping to replace it. Grabbed a black permanent marker colored in the chip and from 5 feet away it is hardly noticable and I think thats just b/c I know its there. I am extremely happy with this purchase and I will definately get the rest of this system...welll, minus the sub anyways. I highly reccomend people consider these if they are on a tight budget.

So how does the sound compare to the Klipsch systems you heard? Obviously it's hard to make a really good comparison (due to the time laspe), but from what you can remember...?

I have no doubt it's a good piece. I have a pair of Venturi speakers (the fabled DV62si speakers) that I've been playing almost constantly. These things rock out so hard...even without a horn tweeter. Incredible speakers really.

Well, i havent heard full klipsh system, just in stereo and the center channel alone, but i have to say the klipsch centers I've heard sunded extremely bright and kind of harsh. This think is anything but, Ill have to comment some more after watching a few more movies, but so far I love the sound of it, I really can't wait to hear it paired with the towers.

I have had the Acoustech center for about a week now and really enjoy it. I'm probably gonna get the Acoustech 8 inch in ceiling speakers for my surrounds. I also received an SVS PB-12 ISD/V today, great sub by the way. My main problem now is trying to figure out how I can stop everything from rattling. Glad to see that you are coming along with your system. I'm still putting mine together slowly but surely.

I told you Spiffy, the thing is huge and the sound is crystal clear at low or high volumes. I knew you would be happy. :)

Are you still going with Klipsch surrounds?
IMO the center and surrounds are the best part of the Acoustech set.
The mains are great, but you read my feelings on those.
I would not want to mod them in fear of loosing the great full mid range...

BTW, you had to start a thread on just the center. LOL :)
Are you going to do that with each piece, then give a review of all, of it put together. LOL :)

Of course I had to start a thread on just the center, its all I have so far. And I'll probably do it with each piece...maybe....I dunno. I plan on ordering the towers today and I saw the surrounds are back up on sale already again with the auction closing saturday morning so I'll have to think about putting a bid on them. If I get both I'll wait and do one on the whole system. I wonder if Bic is going to put out some updated models and that's why all these are getting liquidated? Oh well, our gain so I won't complain a bit.

Spiffy are running just a center right now or do you have other speakers filling the rest until you procure the rest of them?

BTW: Aren't you a college student? what are you doing up at 7:39 in the morning?

Summer is work time, I work in an office and design brochures and ads, plus do a bunch of office work like file papers and take care of mail. Spend about 45min in traffic everyday so I gotta be up early. And it was 6:40am here :)

Actually Im using my Yammy book shelves for mains. The sony sub, and 2 sony sattelites for rears. For the surrounds it sounds kind of ghetto, but it matches really well with the center, I found some kicker 6x9's in boxes that were in my garage, I had them in my old car that didnt have rear speakers. So now since they are 4ohms and I'm not sure if I want to risk hooking them up to my Pioneer, they are running off a stereo kenwood receiver that I had sitting around. They are a little bright, but for surround music and effects they work pretty well.

Have you found that the center is crystal clear, with great tonal range at all volumes, or have you not tested it enough?

I asked about the rest of the speakers because I was wondering if it was worth the upgrade of just the center channel since it can be had for a good price? I thinkn I might be able to swing the wife to let me but one speaker right now if I hold off for a while with the rest. I understand the timbre won't be matched with my Onkyo HTIB Speakers but it would be an improvement. While I am very happy with the HT-770 I bought the center cannel is always hard to hear. I used the ratshack meter to get the right setup but I think I would be mich happier with the efficiency of those BIC's.

You would be very happy going with that center the dialogue is great on it, and it was the first time I'd had actually heard some bass coming from a center channel, just be warned this thing is huge so be sure you have some place to mount it

Hey Spiffy, out of curiosity what's the serial number on the HT-65 you got? I bought my set the first week or two that Costco had them last year, mine's 01114, just wondering what they're up to now.

I just got my copy of Porcupine Tree's Deadwing DVD-A, can't wait until my 16 year-old is out of bed so I can crank it and see how it sounds on these speakers - this is my first venture into multi-channel music (not counting concert DVDs which for the most part just put some ambience into the rear channels).

Haven't even looked at that, got it home, opened the box, checked the speaker out and it was hooked up for me to enjoy, wish it wouldn't have had the chip out of the top, but i cant complain, got it for an awesome price.
