Hello,

I have a A/V Denon 3805 and loudspeakers Whaferdale EVO 40, 10 and Center.

I was considering bi wiring the EVO 40, but some salepeople told me not to, because of the risks for the loudspeakers.

Does anybody has any recommandation ?

Thanks in advance

Regards

What risks are they talking about?

While I would say that bi-wiring facilties can seem to work as a marketing tool for speakers (many consumers like them that way), I see no clear disadvantage bi-wiring a bi-wireable set of speakers. At least, you get to increase the effective wire gauge between the amp and speakers.

The salesman's advice is idiotic- how does he really expect you'll harm a biwirable speaker by biwiring it? He either assumes you're a moron or he's a moron. Providing you don't let the wires short each other there's no risk to your speakers.

Perhaps he doesn't know the diff between bi-amping & bi-wiring?

Thank you, Rob,

I think he thought that bi wiring is fine with two amps, and was afraid about using one amp to bi-wire the loudspeakers. But the Denon 3805 can support this configuration. Would I get any difference ?
Thanks

Biwiring with 2 amps is called Biamping! :D Maybe I was a little harsh- the "danger" of biwiring or biamping is putting the wrong color spade/banana on the wrong color post & shorting something out. I don't have a 3805 (although I'm debating getting one eventually) so I can't say for sure, but I've been told biamping it makes a diff.

While its true you benefit from reduced DC resistance of biwiring two identical cables as opposed to single cables, you also risk doubling your capacitance. This can be an issue with exotic cables that are already high in capacitance to begin with, especially when attached to sensitive amps (usually esoteric types).

My advice is choose a reasonable gauge single wire (say 10-12AWG) and pass on biwiring.

Thank you very much, everybody
I'm going to try to get some sound out of the 3805 (out of the box since yesterday night), on a very good quality single wire. So far, it's not very easy, and I'm a computer guy.... On the master level, which goes from -80db to +20db, what position would give you a loud music ? I have some difficulties with the DVD which is the CD player too...

I called Denon tech support today and asked the very knowledgeable and friendly technician named Tony the same question. Not only did he assure me that it was safe to bi-wire my front speakers, he recommended that I do so.

Hope this helps.

Again there is nothing wrong with biwiring, but if you use a quality single wire to begin with there is no need for doing it other than to impress your friends :D

What would you consider to be a good single wire? Would you use the same cable for the fronts, surrounds and center?
