Bi wired speakers

Newbie questions:
1. Why do some speakers need to be bi wired?
2. How do you bi wire them correctly?

No speakers NEED to be bi-wired. It is just offered as an option. It also comes in handy for people wanting to Bi-amp.

To correctly bi-wire speakers you take two sets of speaker cables. Connect them both up to your ampliifier and take one set for the top posts and the other set of cables to the lower posts. At the amplifier end you just connect both pairs of cables up to the same place exactly like you would with only one set of speaker cables.

Also, you take the connecting strap off of the speaker posts as they arent needed in bi-wire configuration.

Honestly, I wouldnt bother with it myself. I have tried it and did not hear any differences. And while I do think there is a difference between bi-wire and single wire setups when you are talking technical electronics stuff, I still dont think those differences add up to something you can hear.

Special note here!!!

If one takes off this strap, be sure to reinstall it when you go back to single wire mode
Just recently one poster had speaker problems. Yep, no strap in place.

No need to bi-wire. Just another way to sell more speaker wire. I've done it and noticed no difference. Give it a try yourself just for peace of mind.

There is a difference between bi-wiring and bi-amping. Bi-wiring uses the same amplifier with just more cabling that isn't necessary (electrically it is arguably better, but not audibly). If more power is needed and active x-overs can be integrated into a sound system, you can bi-amp. You would be using seperate amplifiers for the high and low frequencies and bypassing the passive x-over in the speaker system which can have improved results audibly.

Okay, you guys are giving me a bad name here.

Yes, it's true that I have been found guilty of quad-wiring my speakers.
However, I do realize that it's a total waste, and I was just having a little fun. Actually I have 12 channels of amps, and I just didn't want them to go to waste. They say that wasting food is sinful, so I thought maybe wasting amps was also sinful?**hee**hee

But to the OP: don't waste any money or time bi-wiring or bi-amping because it is simply a total waste of money and time.

Yes, but you could ship the extra amps to Africa unlike leftover food that would spoil in transit.
