How exactly does that work with regard to DVDs? By not using the 6th and 7th channels, your receiver wouldn't 'see' surround-back speakers and matrix a 6.1 DVD to your 5.1 setup. But by using the 6th and 7th channels, your receiver will 'see' the surround-back speakers. Only thing is; it'll be sending the surround back signal to the fronts.

Buckle, I just have a 5.1 system so the other two channels are not used for anything else. Read this review of the 3805 for how it is setup. This same setup can be used with other receivers that have 7 channels when only five are used. But I really don't think it's worth the effort.

It's this that got me interested...;)

I'll maybe give it a go (if I can be bothered), just to see. If I did, I'd have 2*170W=340W for each of the front towers. That's only 10W less than the amp driving my sub!

Cheers. :)

Unfortunately it's not additive. You would have 170W driving each section of your speaker. Having 340W to both sections combined would be better if the wattage was needed and it's probably not needed. ;)

I was just reading through my integra 7.8 manual and stumbled across bi-amping. I always wondered why my Mirage M3's had 4 posts.

Assuming I am standing behind the speaker and these rudimentary lines are the posts. Would anyone happen to be familiar with what 2 posts are tweeter and which are the 2 subwoofer.

So if I have a 5.1 pioneer receiver, and a 7.1 multi channel amp... can I use the extra two channels to Bi-amp my mains by splitting the Main channels comming from the preouts into the Amp? It would seem like for this I would need to use an external EQ to seperate the signal before it reached the amp.
It can't possibly make any audible difference. The amps are all sharing the same power supply. It is the power supply that is the limiting factor, not the number of amplifiers. This is powered bi-wiring.

You can assign the amps that power the 6th and 7th channels to "double up" on the fronts for the purpose of biamping in the menu of the Denon receivers, at least on the 280x and up for sure. That way, it won't be matrixing the back channels into the fronts, alleviating your concern :D
