What do you hope to gain by doing this? If improved sound is your goal, don't bother. Even if you are not within the parameters listed below, its cheaper to get the correct gauge wire for a single run then bi-amping. More noticeable improvements can be had through speaker/room placement and acoustic treatments.

Passive bi-amp is a waste.

But yeah, you could passively bi-amp using the AVR & pre-out w/ Y-cable to EMO.

Ok i just want to be clear, i want to bi amp using my rec for my highs and mids, and my emo for my low.
I thought passive bi amping would mean coming from one component or transformer?
Yes, i am trying to improve the sound with what i have but if a single wire is just as gd than this set up then id incline to the latter.

As mentioned, passive biamping doesn't get you a whole lot more vs just getting a more powerful amp. Which Emotiva?

Generally, passive bi-amping works best* if both amps are the same. If their gain is different, one may be louder than the other. This can sometimes be overcome If you can adjust the gain of each power amp, but this isn't an option in your case.

* - by "best", I mean it won't degrade the sound balance.

What you are contemplating is passive bi-amp. No improvement in sound at all. Even worse if the gain is different between the 2 amps used. It's a waste of time. Just use single speaker cable.

Typically, you would split the pre-out signal into 2 and feed 2 identical signals to the external amp. Then 2 identical amps would feed one speaker.

But bottom line is, it's still passive bi-amp here. Waste.

Not a complete waste IMO, but as I said, if you have a big enough amp in the first place, then there is literally no benefit. Yes, you will achieve a lot of power, but if you don't actually need that much power, then you're adding complexity and expense for no reason.

So if the reasoning is to get a smaller amp vs. a larger one and use the receiver to biamp, you're better off just getting a better amp.

Thanks for clarifying what passive bi amping means. I will stick to the single cable run with the proper gauge wiring.
I have a upa5 emotiva. I am very happy with it, i just had some down time this weekend and thought i'd play around with the set up. Instead ill just order some wiring an call it a day.
I am not trying to upgrade to anything bigger but simply just experimenting with the sound.
Thanks guys

I think this is a basically bad idea, because as Markw pointed out the gain of the two sets of amp channels need to be identical, and with your plan there isn't gain to match. The receiver amps will respond with some level of output at a given volume control setting and the Emo amp is also certain to respond with a different level, depending on their gain and the pre-out voltage level.
