Their focus has been on permanent-planar magnetic loudspeaker systems. Arvind found the high-frequency reproduction of the BG Z-1’s to be remarkable. He felt like he was not listening to a tweeter at all and instead the music materialized from nowhere. This phenomenon is consistent with his previous experiences with ribbons and electrostats.<?xml:namespace prefix = o /></SPAN></SPAN></FONT></P>

reticent midrange

I would imagine that the "reticent midrange" mentioned would relate directly to the response between 150 and 1500Hz - down roughly 3.5dB as far as I can see from the graphs. In my experience, this is the zone more likely to be perceived as "midrange" than the 2 - 7 kHz range singled out on page three of the review which is subjectively mostly high overtones.

I am not surprised at the favorable review. The lesser, though very similar, BG A-1 (now discontinued, I believe) was also a remarkable value.
