Anyone tried or have an opinion on using multiple receiver combinations to go beyond 9.2/7.4 for Amos/DTSX. I have a 7.4 set-up which is great and I know it should be enough, but I'm itching to go to a 9.6 set-up. Unfortunately, like most I can't afford the Trinnov. I've read a few threads of a couple people doing it and thought I throw it out there to see if other folks have tried it.

Get dual VTF-15H's first before worrying about more Atmos. You'll thank me later :D

LOL!!! Solid advice and typically I would say you're right, but I already have just about everything I need to do it. Don't crush my dreams man.

Plus I need to get the first one before I can get the second...I already know I'll want a second though!

I wouldn't worry about going beyond a 7.4 system unless you had a very large listening area. Even 7.4 is probably overkill if your listening area is just a few meters wide. Going beyond standard configurations will cost a small fortune for very diminishing returns anyway. As has been said, multiple subwoofers would be a far better investment.

Seriously, I have no life.
Is that 7.4 referring to Atmos or 4 subs?
If Atmos, where would you get a consumer BD recording with more than 4 Atmos speaker positions on it?

I'm referring to Atmos. I can't speak from experience because I only rock 4 top speakers, but I'm assuming there is content beyond that on BD. There are people already using more than 4 top speakers for home applications and Dolby has a home theater sound mixer for 9.6 as well.

I don't really care about having the wides, but I had to have my top rears right above me in my last house and now I've recently moved and positioned them further back where there supposed to be. I have to say I miss having the ones right above me, but I do like where I've moved them as well. So solution would be to add a set of top middle speakers. My room is 5x10 meters and I'm only using a little more than half, but it's still a decent size space. I will undoubtedly use 2 subs as well at some point. I just wanted to put some feelers out on this subject because from what I've seen is this is relatively inexpensive to achieve. Would just require another 9 channel Atmos receiver which I realize isn't a drop in the bucket, but also not as much as a small SUV like the above mentioned Trinnov. This would be something to do after the second sub maybe.

Actually it would require more than just a second Atmos capable receiver since they can't communicate with each other about speaker -vs- sound positioning.
There is a large and detailed thread about this topic in AVS, and currently without going to something like the Trinov, the only way to expand beyond 7.1.4 is by matrixing the other positions, so they would not be discrete.

FYI, BD & UHDBD actually has which ever mix the studio decided to place on it, up to the full 24.1.10 cinema version, it all depends on the receiver as to the number of speakers used.
