Better DSP-Denon or Yamaha?

I searched the forums but couldn't find a related thread. I have never owned a denon receiver but am now taking a hard look at the AVR 4806 vs the RXV4600. I use receivers strictly as preamps, though I might consider powering a 2nd zone with their internal amps. My current receiver the rxv750 was supposed to be a temporary stand-in until receivers with digital video switching hit the market. Now I'm at the upgrade point, and i was wondering if there is any major difference in DSP implementation between both brands, or should that even be a consideration when choosing?

Yamaha is known for better DSP's, as well as very high end, clean pre-outs.

I'm not sure I'm understanding exactly what you're asking but Yamaha I am guessing has many more DSP modes.

The price of the Denon 4806 to use it as a pre/pro seems a little steep in my opinion but I am positive it will be a great unit. If I were going for that price range I'd probably keep a close eye on the Anthem AVM 30 and its HDMI upgrade. The Yamaha 4600 appears to be a great feature packed receiver that would be a killer pre/pro.

I think that I would just for go the whole reciever and find a really nice pre/pro to work with all of your power.

Does anyone even use any rock, concert hall, ect modes? I hate them. I would rather not have any except for 5ch stereo and add some in&outputs.

Yamaha has been a leader in DSP since the 1980's. Their experience in digital technology stems from their huge musical instrument division which has always been at the front of the pack. They were the first company to include all-digital FM synthesis in their Electone organs and then took that a step further with AWM (sampled) and VA (virtual acoustic).

Although I personally don't use any of the DSP's for music, they are generally regarded the best of the best when it comes to this sort of signal manipulation.

I'll second that. :D I also use PL II for TV that's not broadcast in DD. Just give me Direct and Pure Direct and leave the others out. This seems to be a favorite extra with Yamaha owners but would never influence a purchase decision for me.
