Is that for the pair? If individually then there are better options. I generally only have people hop on the Monitor 70's when Newegg is blowing them out plus the free shipping.

Energy CF-70s go on sale every once in awhile for $199/ea...I've not heard that particular model, but I do like Energy speakers and the normal price is $499/ea.

Good catch, right now, that is just for one, making in $400/pair...

Yep, there are better deals out there for the $$. What City do you live in/near?
about 2.5 hours from Salt Lake and 3.5 from Boise

they will be powered by an HK3490 and I have about $500 of so left in the budget

jinjuku suggested a better deal than I did, but just in case if that one already sold....

yep, these...
Not really anything to see there. Find out where that Yamaha is and give the guy $50 for it and RUN with it.

I would take it over the HK and use the $$ toward speakers.

So recommendations for $700 worth of speakers are in order.

thanks, I'm now on the speaker hunt
You could post in the DIY section here, AVS, Home Theater Shack and see if there is a member there that could help you DIY. Just a thought. Depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to chase.

Check out Zaphaudio.com for starters. If not no worries. Good luck.

Can they really sound good they are very low priced. I am sure you can get a bargain these days on stuff made in China but I do wonder what level of design and parts could have been applied at that price.

cheers
