23' dedicated to theater space, 2 tiers of seating, 5.2 setup is probably appropriate. If possible, I'd consider a false screen wall with speakers behind an AT screen.

That is 8320 cu.ft! What is your budget? Does the ceiling need treatment and the ceiling lowered to put insulation above the ceiling?

That is going to take a big powerful system to fit that space. You won't get spine tingling SPLs with a receiver and pipsqueak speakers. This will take serious equipment. I would try and organize a mechanical chase, so you can get behind the equipment.

I would go 7.1 in that room. Unless you build big back loaded horns, you are going to need serious amplification. I agree with using an acoustically transparent screen with speakers, preferably huge ones, behind the screen.

A project like that really makes me salivate. In that room custom DIY speakers will pay dividends in terms of results achieved. To do the job well in a space like that will take a serious cash, time and sweat equity investment.

This is the only garage build that I know of, and this space is much smaller I'm pretty sure. 40 x 16 x 13 can be more than two rows for sure. If going with a huge screen on AT, you're going to want a light cannon. Yes, that's a garage.
wow, thats really nice. hmmm i have a huge basement at home that no one uses....

If the room wasn't going to be used also for game room I could also see an infinite baffle (IB) sub, 3-tiers of seating, a 7.2 configuration, 13' wide CIH AT screen, etc.... But I don't think the budget is anywhere near there.

This is a dream setup place for me.

And I'd start by treating the entire garage with fiber insulations. You some acoustical cloth to cover it.

The next step would be to Set up a front sound setup with custom speakers.

You will need some powerful speakers and some good amps. I'd build some Audiopulse Axis ported subs.

I gotta stop I'm dreaming too much.
