Best way to connect TV wARC to my old Onkyo 805

So I just hooked up a new TV in my bonus room and the receiver does not recognize the signal from the TV. I can do the optical output from the TV as an option but is there a better way with the HDMI cable? Thanks

Unless your avr has the ability to handle ARC, not with hdmi except perhaps to not use the tv as a source of audio? Otherwise perhaps to input everything thru the avr if you're not using tv based apps/ota content. Do you need DD+ or something particular?

I am using it for internet tv so it is my main source feed to the receiver. The optical is certainly an option. I was hoping to not have to toggle TV input if possible when my BluRay is running through the receiver.
