Best way to connect my system?

Hello all, am new to this. Thank you.

I've got a Sony HDTV. a Marantz SR5001 receiver, two Canton floor speakers and a Canton subwoofer. Am going to buy the Oppo BDP 83 blu ray player.

It seems to me I should use an HDMI cable to go from the blu ray player to the HDTV. And run an audio cable to the receiver. Should I use analog cables or the digital coaxial to play back Blu ray discs and CD's? I only have two speakers and a subwoofer and have no plans to go to 5.1 or 7.1

For playing back SACDs, should I use the mixed output jacks or all 7.1 RCA jacks of the Oppo to the Marantz?

The Marantz has HDMI version 1.1. The Sony has version 1.3 as does the Oppo.

Many thanks, Adi

Since HDMI 1.1 won't pass audio, I would go with RCA cables for both music and movies. The Oppo can decode the new audio codecs for bluray so I think you are set. I haven't done any SACD playback (yet) but I think you will need to set up the player to downmix to two channels. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I just picked up an 83 myself. You'll love the Oppo. It was money well spent in my book.

if the Oppo is decoding the digital audio and converting it to analog, use the 6 (5.1), 7 (6.1) or 8 (7.1) direct analog RCA outputs with an RCA audio cable for each and feed it into the direct analog inputs (I think Marantz calls them the "multichannel in" inputs).
