Best Value (under $1K) receiver that will upconvert to 1080P

Looking for the best value receiver that will upconvert signals to 1080p so I can run one HDMI cable to the TV and run all signals through it. I currently have a high end Sony receiver that is too old to up-convert, and I hate this receiver because it is very bright sounding, so no Sony recs please. I want the best value (video and audio quality). Watts don't matter to me since I never max out the sound and have 1200 watts of base already.

I haven't had the chance to try it out yet but the Denon 2808 does just that, one of the reasons I got it. There are plenty of receivers in your price range that will work for what you want.

Another member just posted about "NewwEgg" having a Black Friday deal on the new Onkyo TX-SR876 AVR for $899.00. I myself find this to be a great deal, and it's the first I've heard of this type of pricing on this AVR.
Since you stated that you want a good upconverting AVR, this seems to be just the ticket for you since it has the HQV chip in it.(just like last year's TX-SR875 did) And though you aren't worried about power all that much, this AVR is 7.1 at 140 WPC. (Onkyo fanboy here:D)
Good Luck! Joe B.

What is the main difference between the 875 and the 805 and 806?

The video upconversion plus one additional HDMI input is the main difference between the 875 and the 805. The 875 uses the Reon HQV chip rather than the so-so Faroudja DCDi chipset used by the 805.

The 875 is the one I would seek due to the Burr-Brown DAC's and the Reon HQV chipset if I had the dough for an additional receiver right now.

I just tried to buy this at newegg but was told the promo code is invalid. Any suggestions?

Zumbo, you're in my wheel house bro.
I am but a simpleton. No skills, limited intellect.
I need a receiver and most everyone has suggested either the Onkyo or Denon.

Now Yamaha? is this model, in your opinion, that superior to the 875?

Post #6 has been edited. Go back.

The Onkyo 876 for $999 at Onecall looks like the bang for the buck.

I feel that Yamaha and Denon are superior to Onkyo in quality, but everone knows that Onkyo is the bang for the buck. At this price-point, the Onkyo mops the floor with the other two.

I have an old Onkyo receiver, and the only issue I ever had with it was going into protection mode often. It still works though, and is in use at my shop.

And your fav of the three?
I have seen some complaints about the Yamaha 1800, but don't remember what they were.

My favorite is Yamaha. I have a Z7, and my previous was V1400. Onkyo before that.

I love Denon also, just haven't tried one yet. I was going to go with Denon this time, but I found a deal on the Z7 at the last minute.

Strube,
where did you get the code? It doesn't seem to work. thx
Yes indeed, if you want what seems to be an amazing deal ($899) on the SR876 mentioned by Joe, here it is (beginning at 12:01 am PST):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120118&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL112808&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112808-_-Receivers-_-L8D-_-82120118

and put in the coupon code EMCBBCJDD at checkout.

Just as a side note, I build computers on the side and, if you are unfamiliar with Newegg, they are an outstanding online retailer, at least in my experience.

The code only worked on Friday. The day after Thanksgiving.

Don't forget that TODAY(MONDAY) is Cyber Monday. That's the internet vendors version of Black Friday.
I am guessing that you will find almost the same exact deal on that Onkyo today, but probably at like 10 different internet sites.
Good Luck! Joe B.

Yeah, Friday was the only day it was good. Sorry. It is still $999 at Newegg because of Cyber Monday, still a decent deal, just not quite as good. I am still thinking about it myself, still working on the WAF though ;).

Live Cashback through JR Computer Music World will give it to you for $929 after cashback.

there's always deals... no worry to get caught up in saving a 'couple' bucks.

but... back to the original post... "convert signals to 1080p" ??

Am I missing something ?

Do you all actually believe this ?
