Best TV in 30" range?

My old Toshiba 27" flat screen bedroom TV just crapped out and I am looking to replace it with something better. Ideally I would like to get the 30HXF Toshiba but am open to any suggetions. Of course bang for buck is always my thing, my budget is under $1000. Also it would be going into an Armoir with the inner width dimensions no greater than 32".

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Your width requirements are going to dictate that you get a 4:3 TV with the speakers mounted at the bottom. Toshiba would be my choice. RCA, Phillips etc may having something to offer. Toshiba would still be my choice.

By the way, I own a Sony. The Sony's speaker design (mounted to the sides) would not meet your width requirements.

I just bought the Sharp 26" LC-26GD6U. It was $2000, but Sharp is having a $200 rebate (until Feb. 28) on all of their 26" LCDs. I know that is out of your budget, but perhaps the 5U or 4U (with the rebate) would be in your price range. I haven't seen the 5Us or 4Us, but the 6U is simply stunning as both a TV and computer monitor.

Redbone, it sounds like depth is not an issue which means that CRT will blow the crap outta any CRT or plasma out there. 4:3 is not at all the direction you want to head as you already have decided by posting a 16:9 CRT television in your original post.

The world has gone flat panel crazy and quite often doesn't get that CRT is still the standard that no flat panel has come close to reaching yet.

I think if you have been happy with Toshiba, then you will continue to be very happy. Sony is another excellent way to go generally for reliability in quality televisions.

The hard part is maximizing your space with image, so the Toshiba does offer the speakers located under the display which makes it ideal for you. In my opinion, you've already made an excellent choice.
