I can recommend Samsung - most bang for the buck (more pic controls than any other brand).
I still love my 2 yr old 40" 1080p Samsung, some of the pic quality adjustments it has are only found on special service menus on almost all other brands...with a few posts on AVS, I was able to find professional calibration references, and set it up to give great pic quality.
