Best Subwoofer for $1000

I have $1000 to spend on a Subwoofer, I've been doing crazy research and I'm looking for opinions. A lot of folks just seem to shout out the latest name without having owned or heard what they're talking about. My room is 2000 cu ft. Probably %50-%50 HT vs. Music. Looking for suggestions...

Excellent recommendations. I would also add this sub. I know it is slightly over budget. But I don't know how you can't mention it with the savings right now.

PB12-Plus/2 http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-plus2.cfm

And I have heard all three of them not just as you say " shout out the latest name"

Only 10% over buget with a huge savings. Very impressive. :)

At least the OP didn't say 'a lot of folks "here" shout out' .... I had to read that part twice in order to find a way not to get defensive. ;)

Still trying to figure out the point and meaning of your post?

Really? I guess it was an attempt at a little friendly ribbing while expressing my thanks for providing a link to a great deal. The friendly ribbing part would be like maybe teasing you about recommending things that are over budget to one degree or another but are of a vastly higher quality than the budget would allow. Maybe I should have just left it at clicking the "thanks" button....

The 2nd part of the post refers to the OP's use of the generalization regarding how people make recommendations. At least he didn't point a finger at the Audioholics crowd which I would have found somewhat offensive. I consider the info found here to be credible and reliable.

Happy New Year,
Alex:)

The PB12-Plus/2 is only $99 bucks over the OP's budget. Add the $99 bucks for shipping, and we are only talking about $198 bucks over. :D

A brand new product from Sunfire that I've used 6 of are the HRS series subs. Stunning, given their price point. After using these we probably won't be going with any other entry level subwoofer that either doesn't come in a pre-built 5.1 package (YUK!) or that we can buy in bulk to offer a huge discount below what these go for. This is just my opinion gathered from personal & professional experience, but I don't know if I've ever heard anything that comes close to these little subs in the price category of $1K and down. You want to go up in $ another couple of hundred to say a $1500 piece, sure there are things that are better performers, but under that I think the HRS line holds it's own, easily.

The HRS line, to me, is INCREDIBLE for the money. They absolutely pound & without being muddy or sacrificing. The finish is a really nice piano black and these subs are absolutely tiny, having no right to sound so big. If you can audition, go try one out. I have not used the HRS-8 (the 8" in the line) but the HRS-10 (10") & HRS-12 (12") were both great and I would expect the HRS-8 to follow suit.

A great example of a WOW moment was our first time using the HRS-10: Client had a fairly large basement (60" plasma but PLENTY of room to have done a front projection system in a wide open room) and we demo'd the movie 300 as his first "experience" with the new system. We used 1 HRS-10 and had the volume @ a level just under the "no more" thresh hold. That single HRS-10 destroyed us. Deep, clean, tight, and detailed. Fast starts & stops and, most important (to me), NO waffling/chuffing. That's tough for any sub, save for the higher end, to really pull off @ high volume levels and in such a big open space. We never once heard the sub... we just felt it. That's when I knew it was a great piece.

@ the end of this week I will be done with a system that uses two of the HRS-10's & will post photos (along with the Sunfire Trio pics that I need to put up.... we just aren't done with that project yet).

MSRP Pricing:

HRS-8 = $699

HRS-10 = $799

HRS-12 = $899

Thanks for all The Input!!!

I really appreciate it. I decided on a slightly used SVS PC Ultra. I've never owned a Cylinder Style Sub before but I'm looking forward to getting it. Got it for 800 shipped. I looked at all the graphs and figures related to all of your opinions and felt like this was a great option for now. I have enough equiptment to open up a used equiptment super store. The SVS is going to run the show while I'm building my Infinite Baffle Sub with 4 18's. That's my winter project. Thanks again for all the input! If you're looking to sell good used equiptment, I'm always buying :D

Ahh... watch the B-Stock page... I just picked up a Plus/2 in Piano Black off there today for $950.00... :D:D I wished it was a RoseNut, but beggers can't be choosers.. and knowing they will never be around again, I didn't want to miss my chance.

with Shipping it was $1049.00 Thats .5% over budget... :)

Are you going to split the LFE signal, and keep them together? "POWERFUL" "INSANE"

Or are you going to split the LFE signal, and separate the subs in different locations?
