Hey Fellas,

Any advice on the best sub for the buck?

Must be $350 or less and have some sort of wood finish :)

Thanx,

Those two subs are pretty much it, AFAIK at that price point.

You can "build" a very nice sub for around $400, using prefab boxes, plate amps and DIY drivers. I put build in quotes because these are essentially kits that one bolts together-there is no real work other than mounting the driver and amp to the box, wiring up the two and connecting it to your system. I "built" a very nice 12" sub with an NHT 1259 driver, a Rhythmik (sp?) Audio A370 amp and a Madisound 3.3 cf box for around $500, which IMHO is a giant killer of a sub-F3dB is around 25 Hz, which is pretty good at any price. Mine is a bit over your price, but there are similar kits for your price point (and less) that will give you very high quality performance if you are into the DIY thing.

To be honest, and F3 of 25Hz isn't all that impressive these days with the Internet Direct companies, certainly not at $500 considering the SVS PB-10 and HSU VTF-2 Mk3 are both less than $500 also and are capable of 16Hz and 18Hz respectively. That is not to say that DIY isn't a good idea, it definitley is if that sorty of thing is an option.

That is 20 inches of speaker diameter but not 20 inches of surface area. Regardless of that, it looks like a pretty decent option.

It is a passive radiator setup, not dual driver. PR does add some output, but not nearly as much as an actual dual driver config. My friend's GR sub I have right now is a 12" with a 12" PR and it has 350w - impressive output and sounds good. He's selling it for $350.

That would have been my suggestion. Used doesn't have to mean obsolete. Look for something local as shipping might eat up what you save buying used. Demo and open box at your dealers no doubt come up from time to time.

Definitely hit up all your local retailers and see if there are any open box/demo untis. These may have some blemishes, but they carry the full manufacturer's warranty also and you can save a bundle if you know what to look for. Big box stores aren't likely to carry a lot of real wood veneer subs though....

I once picked up a Wharfendale sub like that. Regular retail was like $500 and I got it for $150. It was a floor model and had no box or manual but came with a full warranty.

right, it comes out to be the same surface area as a single 14.1 inch driver.... if anyone was wondering (I was anyway). :)

I can't believe that no one has mention the subwoofers from Outlaw!!

Amazing products!!! PERIOD

I had purchased there 990/7700 combo, last year. It is a true listening experience everytime I listen to music or movies.

I will be selling my Definitive PF1500 subwoofer and replacing it with two LFM-2's Two for thprice of under $600.00.

Hope this helped.
