Best speakers for the AVR of my choice

Hello to everybody. I'm new here.

I'm upgrading my audio system for my HT setup. I have a 15 square meter (5 x 3 meters) rectangular HT which is acoustically treated. I have a 50" Samsung DLP TV (native 720). I plan to upgrade my AVR and speaker system before the year ends. I have set my mind on the Onkyo 705 AVR because of its FULL HD capability (in terms of audio, HDMI). I'm at a lost with the best speaker to go with it. I'm more into movies rather than audio (80/20). Speakers that are available in my setting are the following: Mission M5s (M5 for fronts, M5c for center, M5ds for surrounds), Paradigm Monitor Series (Monitor 7 or Monitor 9 for fronts, CC 190 or 290 for center, and ADP 190 for surrounds), and Paradigm Studio Series (Studio 60 for fronts, Studio 290 or 390 for center and Studio ADP 590 for surrounds) and for subwoofer I have my eye on Velodyne CHT-12R. This audio upgrade is in preparation for my Video upgrade (HD player and Full HD LCD or Plasma TV) next year.

Any comment as to what is best: Mission M5 or Paradigm Monitor for speakers. My budget for the upgrade is around $2K.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, oreoshake! Excellent name, btw.

My only advice on those two brands would be to go and audition those speakers, assuming that you have that option. People have widely varying opinions on different speakers because our tastes are different, so it's important to hear them for yourself. When I was buying speakers ten years ago, I had heard great things about Paradigm. However, when I auditioned them, I couldn't stand them. So, I'm glad that I didn't buy a brand based only on reputation. That doesn't mean that they aren't great speakers...just that they aren't my preference.

Do you have the option to also try out internet-direct companies where you live? The one that comes to mind for me is Aperion Audio because they offer a 30-day no-risk trial period in which they will pay shipping both ways if you return them. Nothing to lose, and they get good reviews. There are several other good choices, too, that might cost a small shipping fee - such as Axiom.

Well, if 2K is your budget then you can rule out the Paradigm Studio package and I wasnt too impressed with the monitor line. The Aperions that Adam mentioned would be worth looking into as would a package deal from AV123.
