I just bought a new Onyko TxNR801 and am now buying the rest to go with it after reviewing many topics I have found a couple setups in my price range. Which of these setups would be the best. My living room is about 15X15 and has an entry into the kitchen on the back right side and a hallway on the right front side. I watch 85% movies/tv 15% music maybe more with the Onyko setup.
1. Aperion Intimus 422/s-8 HT $799
2. Klipsch SF-1 HT $1155
3. BIC accoustech 6 HT $799
4 Axiom audio epic grand master HT $1100

suggestion on another setup similar in this price range would also be appreciated.

Instead of buying a package, try looking at putting most of your money into your front 3 speakers. Also there is no reason why your sub needs to be of the same manufacturer as the rest of your speakers. Listen to as many as you can to see which sounds best to you.

I have nothing but good stuff about the BIC Accoustech setup - especially for someone who is 85% movies...

First off, I dont think the synergy klipsch speakers are worth the money. There's other options in the same price range that will do better.

Here's a review of the Aperion system.

It has a different subwoofer, but the speakers are the same.

I don't know where you getting the epic grand master system for so cheap, as its 1500+ on their site.

The BIC setup is going to be your best Bang for the $ out of the 4, but its a cinema only setup. Atleast from what others have said.

Another system you should consider is from Ascend Acoustics.

Mains - CBM170's
Center - CBM340
Rears - CBM170's
Subwoofer - Hsu STF-1

All for $1148 + $60 for shipping . It can be even less if you get a matching CBM170 center($1038 + $56 shipping). Many people here adoor these speakers, so they shouldn't disappoint.

Check them out. Wait for more people to respond, as there's some very knowledgeable and friendly people who can give you some great idea's also.

Thanks for all your help, you guys make it much easier to put together a good system without breaking my bank account. Every time I went into a electronics store they show me the most expensive stuff and say yep this is the best you want it? or yeah Bose lifestyle 25 is defienitly the best and if I sell 10 of them I get one for free so how do you want to pay? thanks again

As much as I love my STF-1, if you're going to be doing almost all movies, you'll want to put more cash into your subwoofer than that. It works fine for me, but I listen to a lot more music than I watch movies. It does very well for movies in my 11x14 room, but sometimes I feel it's lacking in the low extension and pure SLAM that you can get from a larger unit. From all the stuff I've read and seen, the only way to go for a budget-class HT subwoofer is an SVS PB-10. It will go subsonic with ease in your room and should be able to provide you with slam as well. Sure, it's not as cute as the STF-1, but by golly it's got more oopmh to it (as it should, considering the price and size).

I called an nearby (and only) Hi-Fi store to get a price on Yamaha receivers. Never having been there, I asked what "high-end speakers they carry". The guy said Klipsch, Energy, and Bose. I laughed and said, "No, I'm interested in high-end, not Bose." He just said (this is the truth)..."That's just YOUR opinion! They ARE high-end!" Guess I won't be giving them my business. :D :D

If they are in your price range, be sure to check out the AV123 site and their Rocket speakers. They have a big sale going on through the holidays.

Happy hunting.

Hate to say it but, if there's one thing you will most likely never need an extended warranty on, it's speakers.

look on audiogon and audioweb for demos or used. you can get much better speakers

and avoid the upgrade which will be costly later to you. there are orpheus speakers now on audioweb for a steal. they would blow away most others.

I've never listened to the 422's, but I have Aperion 522 fronts w/a VAC center and 522 surrounds. I'm very happy with these. Now that they're using a different cross-over, you might want call them to see how they might price the older speakers for you.

For the money, I'm happy with my Cadence X-sub 12.
