Looking for opinions backed with reasoning on the best way to set up 2 subs.

Ideas so far:
1) RCA Y from pre-out to both subs
2) RCA Y from pre-out to both subs & L/R to L/R sub
3) Pre-out to one sub and LFE L/R to one sub
4) Pre-out to one sub and LFE Center to one sub

Thx,
Will

Wchildress, welcome to Audioholics forum.

The answer to your question may depend on your receiver. I'm going to assume it has one RCA connector for subwoofer out. I would split that with your Y cable (don't use an adapter, and regular phono cables). I would then take each of the leads and connect it to your subs. There are some great guides here on the website that should help you out with this. Here's one:

IMHO connecting is the easy part. The harder part is going to be calibrating your subs. Depending on where you place the subs they may be reinforcing certain frequencies or cancelling some out. So you may need to adjust phase as well. Here are a couple of articles dealing with subwoofer calibrating.

After reading these you should be in a better position. Unfortunately with subs there's no one surefire solution, you may have to experiment. So get a good glass of wine, and help yourself to alot of patience. ;)

Sub connection

On most receivers, there is a jack labeled subwoofer pre-out OR LFE. Connect this signal to both subs using the least number of cables possible which will be 1 digital coax cable for each sub and 1 Y-adapter.
