Best receiver for upscaling.

Hello. I could use some help. I need a new AV receiver with good upscaling capabilities. I have a Motorola DCT6400 DVR cable terminal going to a Z4 projector. I also would like to hook up my PC and PS3. I need the upscaling to improve the picture of the non HD channels I receive through my Digital terminal. I live in a condo so I don`t need a lot of power. I have been reading up on receivers and upscaling, but the more I read the more confused I get. On some it seems to say if I use a HDMI cable it will just pass the signal through or that they only upscale an analog signal. Is there a receiver that will upscale the digital signal from my Motorola DCT6400 and let me use a HDMI cable?

I would suggest reading the new article on the main page about video processing and which device does what.

Your projector is going to scale any signal that doesn't match its native resolution so unless the receiver can do a better job of scaling than the projector, you don't need video scaling in the receiver.

Don't confuse 'upscaling' with 'upconversion' (the technical term is actually 'transcoding'). Upscaling is going from one resolution to another - like 480i to 720p or 1080i. Upconversion is simply changing the format - like from analog component video to digital HDMI. Upconversion is a convenience feature so that you can connect multiple devices using different video formats but use a single type of format/cable to the display.
