The PQ and everything is all the same? Wow, why is everyone not buying a PS3?!

Awesome, I just saved about 300 to 500 bones then! Not every day a person can say that.

Thanks again guys! :p
No PQ difference, and people get it stuck in their heads that somehow the PS3 is inferior. If you needed to be able to stack something on top of it, or didn't have an area to properly ventillate the PS3 I could understand wanting a stand alone player over the PS3, but I can't think of any other reasons other than those mentioned before about remotes (which have a solution).

How does the PS3 remote fare out, by the way?

Never used a PS2 remote, so I'm new to the console machine remotes

The PS3 remote is very nice, it's solid and works great.

You can also get an aftermarket remote that is IR based. It uses a IR receiver via USB connection on the PS3. You can use the IR remote to program into a learning Universal Remote so you can use just one remote to control it all.:)

I got the Nyko for $16 and it works quite nicely. Just no power or eject, but I have no problem doing that on the machine itself. If you do, then a $55 solution may be right for you;)

I've heard about the Nyko IR converter and it sounds great (I'm with the other poster in not wanting to spend an extra $50 for a power button). However, I have one quick question about it: I know it plugs into the USB port. Does this mess up your ability to play 4 player games? (i.e. is that port considered a controller making it so you can only use 3 other controllers at a time) Thanks.

nope. remember the 40gb playstation? only 2 usb ports and you can still play 4player games.

by the way... why would I need a power button on my remote? If I want to play a game then I have to have the controller in my hands (so now I could power the thing with the PS button) or if I want to play a movie then I have to get to the machine to put the disc in.

by the way... why would I need an eject button on my remote? You still have to get up to unload the disc from the PS3. I would understand if it took a while before it ejects so you don't have to wait like of fool for your tray to open but remember, this ain't no stand-alone player. It takes a second or two to eject...

Smaller receiver

What receiver (smallest possible) do you recommend for the following setup:

PS3
42'' Pioneer Plasma TV HD-4280
5.1 Mirage Nanosat speakers and sub.
Small room (14' x 10')

I am looking something smaller than the typical receiver. I have looked everywhere and all I find are sizes similar to the ONKYO 605 which is too big.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you

Birthday is coming up in 10 days. All I asked for this year (of the few people that asked) was best buy gift cards, and they are going straight towards a PS3. Such a great machine, serves both the gaming and blu-ray needs and decodes all the new HD formats, for only $400 bucks. Its a bargain that I just can't pass up. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I don't know of any actual receivers that are smaller than the average receiver size, and if they are that small, I doubt they would have much power.

I chose the Yamaha DX V663

It is my understanding that the PS3 can only send DTS-HD and DDMA via LPCM. This being the case, am I correct in saying that purchasing a receiver that decodes these audio formats is unnecessary? If this is so, I'd like to hear suggestions as to which receiver will give me the most bang for my buck.

Thanks,
Peter

THe yamaha 663 has two HDMI inputs, and accepts the 7.1 LPCM input. Although the yammy will decode all audio formats, the latest upgrade of the Ps3 actually decodes all the audio formats (including DTS HD MA), and it sends them out decoded as a PCM signal. Your little yamaha won't light up displaying one of the new blu ray codecs, it will only display pcm, but trust me, it is outputting the new blu ray codecs, and they sound AWESOME.

I just watched WAR in DTS HD 7.1! Wow.
