I purchased Onkyo SKS-HT240 home theater speakers. Now, I need to purchase a receiver. I'm an audio newbie, so I don't need to purchase any AMAZING receiver, but I need something compatible.

I don't want to spend over $300 if possible. Is there a great "Bang-for-you-buck" receiver thats compatible???

HERE ARE THE SPECS TO MY SPEAKERS

They don't offer any sensitivity specs on the Onkyo web site; that is bad but I would still guess about average eficiency. One part of the review stated the system is for smaller rooms 400 sq ft or less; but that is a pretty large room. The review is excellent, my only comment is the speakers are a little small (3 1/8 ") to get the full mid and lower range sounds. If you can adjust you subwoofer crossover a little higher, say around 200 Hz it would be better.

About any good entry receiver should drive the system. If you want to stick wiht Onkyo, then TX-SR506 would be a good choice. Some other AVrs are : Yamaha RX-497 or RX-397. My favorite would be the entry Marantz SR3001 but it doesn't have HDMI inputs/outputs

Look for the Yamaha RX-V661 for $300-350. It has plenty of features including HDMI audio processing in case you get a PS3 or BluRay player in the future. It has more than enough power for the HTIB speakers.

The Yamaha RX-V663 can be found for 350-400 if you shop around. I know you want to spend 300, but wanted to let you know what else is close to help avoid any buyers remorse.
It might be helpful to take a look at Yamahas and Onkyos websites and compare the versions to see if there are any features you might like or see yourself wanting down the road.
Cheers,

How about one of the Panasonic digital receivers? No/crippled HDMI functionality, but powerful and cheap.
