Best Receiver for MUSIC around $1000

I've heard alot of good hype on the Yamaha rx-v2600, but I've heard some negatives as far as music is concerned. I've seen some good reviews on HK and Marantz. Looking for some input from owners. My main use of the receiver will be for music, but I'd also like to be able to at least add surround later (but movie audio quality not a priority).

the nicest sounding $1000 receiver I've seen/heard is the Marantz SR7500.
I don't own one, but I did consider it when looking. I eventually decided to get the SR8500 whenever I have the cash.

For fantastic music and movie sound the Marantz(upper models), Pioneer(upper models), or the Boston Acoustics, which is a Sherwood Newcastle, will sound sweet for music. I have a Boston and am partly responsible for convincing another member here for purchasing one last week. He is thrilled. One call has the avr7120 for $970 US down from $2999.99 msrp! That's right...3 grand. It sounds VERY good. Reviewers compared it's sound to that of seperates. It's a steal of a deal. Keep in mind your connectivity needs for now and future. But, you listen if possible and decide. Sound, build quility, and custm'r serv are all = important.

What speakers are you going to be driving? That would make a difference on what receiver to recommend

I'll second what Nick asked, since the speakers are going to make the biggest difference in what you hear ultimately. Marantz is a good place to start in general though. Music was the main reason why I keep buying Marantz :)

I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the Axiom M60's for speakers.

Marantz is a great choice for a new receiver. IMO, they are hands down the nicest looking units as well. I didn't think anything could top the looks of the new Elites, but then I saw the new Marantz line. Yummm.

My choices for best sounding receivers would be Marantz (my first home theater utilized a 5.1 channel model from five or six years ago) and NAD. For sound quality it is hard to beat either brand.

NAD is the most musical receiver

Of all the receivers mention, if music is a priority, you owe it to yourself to audition NAD. Although the other receivers may offer more bells and whistles, NAD spent their R & D into the pre/amp and amp stages. They are spartan compared to the likes of Yamaha ,Denon, and Marantz but NAD clobbers them sonically. The other receiver you may want to listen to is Rotel

Rotel doesn't have a receiver at the $1K price point new, AFAIK. NAD is a very good choice also, but they've had some quality issues in the last few years compared to earlier models which were pretty near bulletproof.

I'd also say the Outlaw 1070 will probably be worth looking at too.

10000000000% approving. Japs for bright sound (movies), NAD or Rotel for warm sound (music). Less 'bells and whistles', more sound quality. The only problem is it might never win a beauty contest........ (crying) lol. Wish it could LOOK (look only) like Marantz. Beautiful old/new style.

I'd still say any of the NAD units for best sound.

Emotiva UL

Check out the Emotiva UL Pre-pro and amp from av123.com. The 6 channel amp can deliver over 200 Watts in to 4 ohms, unlike most receivers in your price range. The A/D and D/A's in the pre-pro are supposed to be pretty high end, especially considering the combo price of $1100.
They will start shipping in mid May and I am anxious to see the reviews.
