I am thinking of buying a 5.1 system with the m22ti as the front speakers. Does anyone have an opinion of what receivers go best with this setup. 60% movies 40% music.

Anyone you like. I have used a Yamaha and a Denon. Personally, I preferred the Yamaha, but I like crisp sound. The Denon seems a little less focused in the midbass and many have found this to be a good combination. I don't think you will find a bad companion for your M22s. Dont' forget to get the QS4 or 8's for the surrounds and a VP 100 or 150 for a CC:)

I second the recommendation for a mid-fi yamaha or denon with around 100 Watts/channel to play your Axioms to their potential. If it is in your budget, look for deals on the Yamaha RX-V1500 for <$500. Otherwise, the Yamaha HTR-5860 is a good buy around $350 new from authorized dealers. Both these would allow you to upgrade to external amps in the future incase you deside to upgrade from bookshelf speakers to floorstanders.

If I chose the Yamaha, I would pick the 1600--HDMI. I am not sure of the HDMI hookup from Denon. Has anyone heard either of these receivers hooked up to Axioms?

The comparable Denon receiver would be the 2807 - just released at the CES show in Vegas.

I wouldn't worry too much about the HDMI inputs - they will change from versions 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.3, so the newest offerings could be outdated sooner than you think.

Personally, I'd look for a receiver with a built in eq - some have parametric, some graphic. These built in eq's will help tame the toughest rooms. Once you auto calibrate your room and receiver, you can go in and tweak even more to bring out more highs, tone down muddy bass, etc... You can also do this with room treatments and speaker placement, but having an eq really makes it nice.

I'm pretty sure the Denon 2805/2807 models (and up), and Yamaha 1500/1600 models (and up) all have eq's.
